2025 Mercedes-Benz eSprinter Offers New Smaller Battery, Rivals BrightDrop Zevo

Even as The General puts its BrightDrop Zevo 400 and BrightDrop Zevo 600 electric vans back into production after a six-month pause, Mercedes-Benz has just pulled the sheets on a competing vehicle, its 2025 Mercedes-Benz eSprinter battery-electric commercial van.

As the latest model year of the existing eSprinter model, the 2025 Mercedes-Benz eSprinter is an all-new refresh that introduces a number of important new features, upgrades, and options to the vehicle line.

One of the key changes is the new availability of different battery sizes in combination with an assortment of wheelbase lengths and roof heights. This enables customers to more closely match the 2025 Mercedes-Benz eSprinter unit’s characteristics to the task instead of relying on a “one-size-fits-all” approach.

Two batteries are now available for the vehicle. One is the original 113 kWh battery offering approximately 297 miles of range according to rather generous European-standard estimates. The other is a new 81 kWh battery providing a maximum range of 204 miles on a single charge. The electric motors these batteries send energy to are rated at either 134 horsepower or 201 horsepower, along with 295 pound-feet of torque.

The refreshed 2025 eSprinter now offers two wheelbase lengths—144 inches and 170 inches—and two roof heights—standard and high. Combining these choices creates different van characteristics. For instance, the 81 kWh battery has a shorter range but can be used for vans with much higher cargo weights than the 113 kWh battery.

Mercedes-Benz gives the example of a 2025 eSprinter configured with an 81 kWh battery, 170-inch wheelbase, and high roof. This variant can carry 3,120 pounds of cargo, about 500 pounds more than the 113 kWh battery would enable. The cargo volume is 488 cubic feet.

Like its gasoline counterpart, the eSprinter gets the Mercedes-Benz User Experience or MBUX multimedia system for the 2025 model year. This system features a 10.25-inch screen and offers access to a voice assistant, Bluetooth smartphone connections, a display of free cargo space, and various other conveniences.

The automaker equips the 2025 Mercedes-Benz eSprinter with several safety features as standard, including hands-off detection for the steering wheel. The Active Brake Assist feature now includes an intersection function that can detect and warn about other vehicles approaching at right angles at up to 37 mph. Blind Spot Assist can pick up pedestrians and cyclists in several positions around the vehicle. Numerous modern tech options are also offered.

Pricing for the refreshed Mercedes-Benz eSprinter starts at $61,250. It can be ordered now and will arrive at dealerships in the second half of 2024.

Merc marketing director Iain Forsyth calls “the eSprinter the perfect solution for last-mile deliveries.” He adds that the refreshed 2025 model is part of the automaker’s push to “expand our product mix and provide options that tailor to [customers’] specific commercial purpose.”

  2. Hopefully the electric motor wont blow out like the gas engine Sprinters do when going up a hill. One business I know stopped buying Sprinters and went to RAM (Stelantis) products.

  4. Do the Sprinters still rust (much faster than other vans), or did they finally fix that?

This area uses liquid road chemicals, stuff is worse than salt. So holding back rust is a concern.
