Two weeks after the launch of the 2024 GMC Sierra Denali in South Korea, GMC‘s full-size pickup has just been named Pickup Truck of the Year in the Asian country.
GM Korea announced that the GMC Sierra was named the Pickup Truck of the Year at the country’s 2024 Korea Car of the Year Awards ceremony, where GMC’s iconic truck stood out for being a pioneer in the domestic full-size pickup market. The automaker’s South Korean subsidiary received the Sierra’s award from the Automobile Writers’ Association of Korea (AWAK), which organizes the annual automotive awards event.
“GMC Sierra is a monumental model that is pioneering the full-size luxury pickup truck market in the domestic market. It is an all-in-one model that can do everything,” said Chief Marketing Officer of GM Korea, Myongok Yoon. “The 2024 Sierra, which has further upgraded its marketability, will guide domestic customers to the world of the authentic American premium lifestyle with an overwhelming product experience,” she added.
The GMC Sierra was named South Korea’s Pickup Truck of the Year after passing a rigorous selection process established by AWAK, which includes a series of tests in real-world conditions as part of the voting process of a panel of specialized journalists. The Sierra won the award for the most outstanding truck of the calendar year in Korea, beating the new Ford Ranger and the mid-size KG Mobility Rexton Sports, which composed the top 3.
Introduced for the first time in the country in February 2023, the GMC Sierra officially inaugurated the full-size pickup category in the local market of South Korea and remains the only exponent of the segment characterizing the American automotive industry. In fact, the truck introduced the GMC brand to the South Korean market and is part of a company commercial strategy focused on new high-end niche segments.
The 2024 GMC Sierra is currently available in the East Asian country in a single configuration that corresponds to the 1500 model with the Crew Cab Short Bed body and the range-topping Denali trim level, offered in a standard version and the country-exclusive Denali-X. The Sierra units for the South Korean market arrive imported from the GM Fort Wayne plant in Indiana, United States.
