Back in July, GM Authority reported that some owners of the 2023 Chevy Colorado and 2023 GMC Canyon pickup trucks were complaining that the battery in their vehicles were inexplicably losing charge. Now, a similar issue has been reported by owners. It’s unclear at this time what may be causing the issue.
For those readers who may have missed it, GM Authority reported over the summer on a series of social media posts made by owners of the 2023 Chevy Colorado and 2023 GMC Canyon pickups complaining that the batteries in their vehicles had inexplicably lost charge. The issue appeared somewhat suddenly, and was originally believed to be the result of a failed over-the-air software update that left the vehicle infotainment system hanging. With the infotainment system stuck in limbo, the vehicle battery would be drained until it was no longer holding any charge, leading to a no-crank condition.
A similar issue also affected the all-electric Cadillac Lyriq crossover. A report was later released outlining how GM technicians could diagnose possible over-the-air update concerns.
Now, some Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon owners are reporting similar issues related to discharged batteries. A significant number of these owners woke up to discover that the battery in their pickup was dead, and to make matters worse, many experienced the same issue back in July.
Despite the similarities, it’s currently unclear if this issue is related to over-the-air software updates. GM Authority has reached out to GM for an explanation, but has yet to receive a reply.
Affected owners must have their vehicle towed to the dealership, or alternatively, they can try changing the battery themselves. However, it is not recommended that affected customers jump-start their vehicle if the battery has been completely drained.
The 2023 Chevy Colorado and 2023 GMC Canyon introduce the latest third generation for each model’s respective nameplate, and both are equipped with the GM Global B electronic architecture.

Yep, happened to my Canyon today. Drove to work in the morning without issue, completely drained battery when I went to leave.
I took the risk and jumped it from another vehicle and got it home. Pulled battery and put it in a charger. Will see how it pans out tomorrow when I get it to my dealer.
Sad quality coming out of GM on these new vehicles. This issue alone makes the Tru k completely unreliable as an OTA update could happen anytime leaving you with a dead ride.
I’m having the same issue with a 2023 Suburban Z-71. Killed one Battery already and by putting a volt meter in the cigarette lighter I am seeing the Battery go down to 12.21 Volts overnight and then the charging rate is all over the place from 12.9 V to 14.8V and everything in between. This is beyond the dealers expertise, and I’m considering a Battery cutout switch, but that would cause other issues. If this keeps up, it’s definately a Lemon Law issue!!
On my older GM you could set the vehicle to connect to WiFi if your choice. I had it set to my phones hotspot rather than the OnStar/vehicle wifi. I’d imagine shutting the wifi feature off completely would disable updates. I think it’s asinine that it updates without prompt.
Same thing with my 2024 Colorado Z71. Two months old and everything is dead. Lynn Layton dealership told me I might have left something on that drained the battery… I’m pretty careful about turning everything off and locking the vehicle. I’ve had no OTA updates so that isn’t the problem. I’m just sick that I purchased this as a reliable vehicle. My 03 Expedition has never given me one minute’s trouble.
My 2023 Chevy Colorado’s battery died again (9/15/23). Just like it did in July. GM has not yet paid for the last towing bill, if I have to pay for another towing I will have paid more for towing than I have for payments. It seemed to be getting close to a lemon law problem.
Should have bought a Tacoma.
Always best to not buy a first year model regardless of brand. Based on the first year issues of the Tundra, I highly doubt the new Tacoma is going to be trouble free.
I agree. We had the same issue in July and again same day as you, 9/15/23. Lemon law or even a class action lawsuit. This is ridiculous. The dealership is absolutely no help. They just charge the battery again, not replacing it and we wait for this to happen again. So NOT HAPPY. I will be contacting my local TV station show 8 on your side to see if they can get anywhere with this. We need a solution, not the runaround.
My 2016 Canyon diesel must had the battery die last week for no apparent reason. I put a charger on it for four hours and it regained its charge. No issues since. Interesting that this happened. I had replaced the original battery a year ago when it had died then and wouldn’t regain its charge.
I think the particular issue being discussed here is only about the new generation (2023 and newer) Colorados and Canyons, since it seems to be related to some tech gremlins that were not caught during development. My 2023 Colorado Trail Boss died this morning (Friday 9/15). When I shut off the truck, exit and and lock it, the screen stays on so the issue might be related to this.
Yeah not a fan of the ship it and we can just “over the air update” your vehicle mantra… works great for windows….
This is not Just the 2023 Chevrolet Colorado as I own a 2022 Colorado and It has now Happened 2 Time once on March 4th 2024 and Again on April 9th. So It it is no Exclusive to Just the 2023 Model Year! First Time after letting It sit for 4 days the Battery was Dead. Got into the Dealer after charging up the Battery andd They did a Load Test among other Tess and Could Not Find Why. The Dealer suggested I start the Truck at least every 2 Days which is Odd! I have own this Colorado since Nov 2022 and This Just STarted Happening. I wished they would Advise the Customer that they are Doing OTA’s because it was working Fine and Now It is a Major Problem. And the Colorado does not Seem to be as Popular as The SIlverado as to Owners Posting About these Concerns! But It is Not Just the 2023 Model YEAR!!!
Yes. My 18 colorado diesel did that too. Had an over the air update before. This was in 2020 or so.
Also same thing with 2021 Sierra. OTA update, then had a SD card not found with the nav system. All the trucks to fix this didn’t work. Do warranty another card.
GM is clueless about this. I doubt this ever got really fixed. Don’t they have a check sum to see if the update is really installed. Duh.
It’s not only this vehicle. My 2022 Sierra SLT 5.3l did the same thing this week. Dealer said that the software update checks to see if the battery is at a certain charge level before the update starts. If it isn’t, the system keeps checking until it is, causing a parasitic drain. The problem is that the system is told the battery charge is low, regardless of actual status. I had to jump my dead battery twice before I could get it to the dealer. I hope I don’t have any further issues.
I think your ridiculous to buy an electric vehicle right now I would wait until they got all bugs work out of these junk suckers
It’s not an electric vehicle….sorry
… but it is funny that the car company known for electrical problems has pledged to go all electric.
you’re
It seems to me there is a hidden virus in the software. Disgruntled employees will do things like this when they know they are being laid off.
George do you have proof of your statement ? Is ot something you have done ?
Just sell me a vehicle without the infotainment system, I don’t need it and don’t want it. Or tell me how to turn it off.
This! Can I get a radio with just Bluetooth. Android Auto apps actually are easier to use on the phone screen anyway…and less buggy for sure.
Simple solution, turn auto updates off in settings. My 2023 canyon at4 been off since June no issues.
Turning off updates is for the infotainment system only. GM can still push OTA updates for non-infotainment related software.
neuter the onstar module and antenna :))
Exactly…we turned off infotainment system as they suggested when this happened in July. And it happened again 9/15/23.
NO MORE UPDATES, GM…FIX THE PROBLEM GM
Signed a very UNHAPPY Customer of a Chevy Colorado 2023.
Not so simple Gary. MANY people have tried this. MANY people have not had success.
yeah GaryI .
Beginning to seem possible that outside hackers just may have gained entrance to GM’s over-the-net software update systems.
That function needs to be disabled by GM on every vehicle equipped with it since nothing has been done to find the bug nor fix it.
Like “OnStar” was discovered to be doing, even though the owner didn’t subscribe to it, the system kept tracking vehicles built with it.
It is not just the mid-sized truck platforms suffering here. My 2023 Yukon AT4 battery was completely discharged after an over the air software upgrade was launched. Apparently something hung and in the morning, DEAD – NO CLICK NO CRANK. Fortunately the tow service that GMC Roadside dispatched knew how to jump the vehicle and then reset all the software systems onboard – it was quite a process – requiring disconnecting the battery and discharging a capacitor that feeds one of the ECUs. Battery doesn’t seem to have been permanently damaged and all systems were back to normal. Dealer was clueless. GM needs to get their software act together or they will be toast.
I agree with you COMPLETELY. Dealer is Clueless and GM does need to get their software act together. I am heading toward either a lemon law or class action lawsuit….but for sure contacting my local TV station’s 8 on your side for any help they can provide. Maybe GM will talk with them?
Why cant gm get their electronic and data interface right? Things like these are hard turn offs for buyers. Who wants to go somewhere park spend a few hours and when you are ready to leave you are confronted with a dead battery? They need to follow up and rectify this issue quickly.
Great so now we cant even jump start our vehicals seriously its gonna get to a point that we wont even b able to put air in our tires
Are you referring to those new stem free tires coming out in ’26?
Could be the chamber deactivation in the battery running only on four cells.
Mine quit yesterday 9/15. Drove 150 miles day before, next morning dead. Tow truck jumped it to start but was in limp mode.
I do hope somebody from GMC product management is monitoring this blog and reaching out to posters that raise these issues? Seriously. Lawsuits brewing.
GM is more worried about being woke than having the right employees working on this stuff. Wake up.My 23 Trail Boss is down for the second time in two months
My 2023 Colorado (purchased in May) died for the second time yesterday (9/15/23), first time happened in July. Used Chevy Roadside Assistance to tow to dealership in July, after a week in service center got the diagnosis of “we think it was the OTA infotainment update, but waiting for GM direction”. No issues since until yesterday, went down same path with Chevy Roadside Assistance, after 3.5 hour wait tow truck arrived and used NOCO Boost X to jump start. After about 30 minutes driving around, stopped by Auto Zone to test battery and confirmed battery was good. Did notice yellow check engine light was triggered after critically low battery charge, had Auto Zone check this code as well but there codes were too new and couldn’t match up. However, once I started truck back up yellow check engine light cleared itself. Turned off all background and wifi update options, purchased portable jump starter and will now wait and see short of GM owning up to and resolving issue. Disappointing to say the least. Good luck to all.
I turned off all automatic updates on my 2023 Colorado back in July and never had a problem until yesterday (9-15-23) morning to go to work and completely dead battery. AAA jump started it and I drove it straight to the dealership. So turning off the automatic updates isn’t the problem. So bummed out…
Battery completely dead this morning (9/16/23) on my 2023 Canyon AT4. No obvious explanation – but this comment thread is very helpful. Jumped it successfully with a portable system. All kinds of warning lights and alerts upon first start. Most have cleared although yellow check engine icon remains lit. Hoping that clears, too, based on earlier comments. I appreciate this blog and active readership with all the comments. Good to know I’m not alone!
be sure to have battery replaced, drained to nearly zero volts deminnishes battery life.
I am so sorry for all of the above that are having problems with the canyon in Colorado further on down the authority GM is focusing on red seatbelts. Wow. I ordered my Canyon 7 1/2 months ago and it’s still not here. May be a good thing.
Maybe they should focus on the thousands of vehicles that are sitting out in Wentzville or Troy Missouri they have not been delivered yet and people are waiting. I can’t believe we have waited over 3/4 of a year to get a new vehicle. GM has missed a mark on this. And if anyone gives me a thumbs down, tell me I’m wrong and tell me why.
I have reached out to General Motors leader ship several times and they will not respond so much for customer service. Customers mean nothing to them.
Just think about all those trucks sitting around and now all have dead batteries and to a point where they replacing.
My 2023 Canyon AT4 was dead again this morning (9/16/2023). This also happened during the first round back in July. My truck is back at the dealership again.
The auto updates were shut off. So, to all the “smart people” in this thread commenting on shutting off auto updates, please just stop commenting. My battery this morning was DEAD dead. Put a charger on it and it wouldn’t even take a charge. I got some radio and lights, but could never turn it over. Mary Barra needs to fix this personally.
Spot on – this issue has nothing to do with turning off updates, as this only turns off updates for the Android-based infotainment system. GM can still push updates for anything else, regardless of this setting, which is where the hang up is coming. This is straight from the Service Manager at my dealership.
Keep buying junk, and companies will keep putting out junk. Supply and demand.
All car companies are so quick to load every vehicle up with the latest rech without it being tested, and we just accept it. Hoe about a standard 10 year 100k B to B warranty??
It happened to me Friday the 15th too. ’23 Colorado Trail Boss. This seems like it happened to everyone with a 2023 on Friday. So there has to be some correlation with that?
-I also had my battery die in July as a result of the OTA updates
-My OTA updates have been turned off since July
-Noco boost powered mine back on and the check engine went away after a few hours
-Has to be related to something that was done on the 15th.
Dead battery for me back in July with my ‘21 Colorado. They replaced the battery after many tests and it was starting to show the new one was half drained as well when I had it checked recently.
My updates on the background are turned off, and my battery was dead also. 23 Colorado trail boss. This is the second time this has happened to me as well . I can’t wait to hear what they say the issue is now …
What is GM doing about this, 4th time for me but has been fine since the July incident but as soon as I read it has happened again low and behold I came out this morning to a dead battery. Calling my dealer in the morning and going to demand answers or I will consider lemon law. Bad when you’re afraid to take a brand new truck on a trip. The part that makes Me mad is GM acts like this isn’t even happing, believe me it’s real
I had the same issue yesterday 9/16/2023 with my 2023 Chevrolet Colorado Trailboss. Tried my keyfob to open my car door, nothing. Had to use the physical key to get in and get my jumper cables. Used my jumper cables, but that didn’t work after trying a couple times it finally started. Brought it to my local Chevrolet Dealership and they will look into it on Monday 9/18 or Tuesday 9/19. Very frustrating. First time it happened to me was back in July. Now this for a 2nd time…
Update: I’m picking up my truck today and here’s what my Chevy Dealership found along with their comments.
“C/S KEYS ARE NOT RESPONDING TO VEHICLE HAD TO USE PHYSICAL KEY TO UNLOCK VEHICLE, JUMP STARTED MULTIPLE TIMES UNTIL VEHICLE TURNED ON. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON WHEN VEHICLE TURNED ON AND BATTERY VOLTAGE WAS 13.8
CONFIRMED CEL ON ARRIVAL, LOW VOLTAGE BATTERY CODES IN MULTIPLE MODULES. TESTED BATTERY WITH GR8. DISCHARGED BATTERY. CHARGED FOR ABOUT AN HOUR AND LOAD TESTED. BATTERY PASSED. LET VEHICLE GO TO SLEEP OVERNIGHT AND CHECKED PARASITIC DRAW. 12mA DRAW, OK. 50mA IS MAXIMUM. CHECKED CHARGING SYSTEM, CHARGES AT 13.3 ON STARTUP THEN GOES TO 14.3V. OK. FOUND BULLETIN ##PIT6018G RELATING. RADIO MAY BE STAYING ON TRYING TO UPDATE ITSELF.”
A troll is gonna troll…
Trolls can’t help it.
Do you want some kind of reward for being a Tacoma owner? Why are you here?
I’m glad you relish in the misfortune of others to vindicate your pathetic life. You’re sad really.
I feel bad for you that you have to resort to the tactics you do to feel better.
I can go on all night beating you up… just keep replying.
Also… if you need help on any of the big words here… let me know… I taught 5th grade… should be above your (not you’re) level… so I should be able to teach even you.
Also… whoops (fitting considering it’s what your (not you’re) parents said when you were born)…
IF WE COULD SOLVE THIS PROBLEM… DON’T YOU THINK WE WOULD?
So, back to your misuse of “their” earlier…
If you taught robotics to surgeons but don’t have a firm grasp of the English language… what hospital do your doctors with robots work at?
I’ll be sure to choose a different hospital for my next surgery.
Again I ask… why are you, a vaunted Tacoma owner, trolling in the muck with us peasant GM owners?
Seriously… why are you here?
Can you answer that question?
Why is an elitist Tacoma owner wallowing in the muck with inconsequential GM owners?
Who has the problem here?
Without stooping to the level that at which you function, yeah, I guess that’s all I have.
Congratulations… you have out-trolled a troll.
More orange wedges and participation trophies for you.
Again… why are you here?
Isn’t “their” a Tacoma forum you can be in…
A big circle-jerk with all your buddies celebrating how smart you all are for being Taco owners?
Tacos are overrated anyway… burritos are way better.
I haven’t read all the comments, but has anyone tried hooking up a battery tender on their Colorado/Canyon when parked? I understand, you shouldn’t have to do that, but it may at least keep it going until GM figures out a permanent fix.
I keep Battery Tender Juniors on everything I have that I don’t daily drive….they work wonders.
I tried a battery charger on mine yesterday and the battery was so drained, it didn’t take a charge. Even my dealership service department acknowledged that this completely dead battery issue is a reality
be sure to replace battery, lead acid batteries don’t like to be discharged and do not recover.
Same Friday kid went out to start his new truck wasn’t even a full week of owning and dead now at dealer till Monday sounds like GM needs to hand out a ton of extended warranty’s just to keep people happy Now he has zero confidence in this truck too bad great little truck
Happened to me on the 15th of September. Dead battery, read 4v, called AAA, wouldn’t take a battery pack, wouldn’t take a jump, the guy had to connect a fresh battery and then connect mine up to get it to stay running and charge. Black screens. Black digital cluster, black infotainment. No idea how much gas I have. The brakes kept going in and out. Black screens, Nothing. I’m a first time GM and first time buyer. I have buyers remorse and I want a full refund on this truck. what a joke. Im beyond pissed and the dealers have NO CLUE what is going on and they tried to fix it. I took a chance and I’m paying for it in all senses of the word, and I can’t even drive it safely! Luckily I kept my Toyota Camry 97. Tried and true with no OTA. I wanted this to be great, I did, but I don’t want it anymore, maybe I’ll make a video of me crushing it as a statement and donate the scrap metal cost to a charity, GM I hope you’re reading this. Worst investment I’ve ever made.
I’m wondering what is going on with GM management. These problems have existed on several of their models for quite a while now.
Ms. Barra I’ve always considered to be a ‘Dim Bulb’, seeing as I’ve never heard her say anything not told to her by a ChatBot. Is Mark Reuss mentally challenged also?
May I suggest that if you haven’t done so already you check and see if your State has a “lemon law” in effect and that you pursue using it to your advantage ?
Is it a coincidence that the day Space X releases 22 star link satellites that all the OTA updates get hung up? probably not………?
happened to me also. Just got it back from the dealership and they are unaware of any other vehicles affected. I know more than they do.
Have any of you who were affected by the 9/15/23 event received a new battery from the dealership?
Hi, looking for your thoughts and opinions. Has anyone tried swapping out the OEM battery for a red top or yellow top battery? Do you think that would keep the battery from dying? I have a Canyon scheduled to be built and this battery issue is concerning.
I don’t think so because the bug in programming causes the battery to drain down to 3 volts (first time 7/16) and 6 volts on 9/15. Huge draw that will overcome almost any battery.
So there was a guy name whoops on here over the weekend.
He was a Tacoma owner… and made sure that he rubbed it in everyone’s face.
Now his comments are all gone.
Good
Paperwork from Dealership on repairs to 2023 Chevy Colorado on 9/19/23
#PIT6042A: Battery Discharged Overnight – (Aug 1, 2023)
Subject: Battery Discharged Overnight
Cadillac LYRIQ 2023-2024, Chevrolet Colorado 2023, GMC Canyon 2023
Do not replace any components. Engineering is currently investigating the root cause.
Involved Region or Country: North America
Condition Battery is discharged overnight.
Cause Vehicle to server communication error.
1. Charge 12V battery with a diagnostic charger if needed.
2. Clear ail DTCs and perform a global battery reset.
3. Ensure all modules have powered down for more than 15 minutes.
4. Start the vehicle and ensure the check engine light is not illuminated.
Important: Note: Confirm the high voltage SOC is above 10% for LYRIQs.
We are aware of the issue with certain vehicles experiencing drained 12 volt batteries, which may require the customer to jump start their vehicle. Engineers are working to resolve this issue as quickly as possible. In the meantime, it is important for customers to know that the issue is not caused by the vehicle’s over-the-air (OTA) update and are encouraged to complete the software update when prompted by their vehicle.
The high rate of drained 12 volt batteries has been tied back to a vehicle to ser/er communication error. If you have any 2023 Colorado, Canyon or LYRIQ vehicles that have been towed in with a recent dead 12 volt battery or driven in after a jump start due to a low battery, perform a battery recovery with the GR8 or DCBS diagnostic charger. If the battery passes and the vehicle has no outstanding battery draw, release the vehicle to customer.
I would think vehicle to server communication error would be the same as OTA update causing these problems. Taking mine to dealer for record of this happing so I can lemon law my truck after three times for same issue I can do this one more is strike 3. Come on GM figure this out.
Just heard from my dealer…
They replaced my dead battery in my Canyon AT4.
They also told me that the issue appears to be something with the Serial Data Gateway. I was told that this is essentially the firewall for the computer system of the truck. The current thinking, at my dealer anyway, is that the Serial Data Gateway was not letting the July OTA update through and it was not letting the September OTA update through. Therefore, the OTA kept pinging the truck and killed the battery. If you haven’t asked your service departmet about the Serial Data Gateway, ask them about it. Apparently, my service department installed whatever this new update was, “behind” the Serial Data Gateway, and they are “confident” this “fixed the problem.”
ElderKrapf
Great to hear. I will see whether my dealer believes this update addresses the issue that reared its head on my Yukon AT4 6.2 earlier this month.
I can concur on the Serial Data Gateway remedy. My GMC dealership reprogrammed the serial data gateway module (GM bulletin #PIT6042B). Good luck all.
2023 Canyon had the same issue last week. Went on 150 mile road trip. Halfway through Sirius froze with no music but AM and FM were still working. Parked it Friday afternoon. Went out Sunday morning to start and completely dead. Jump started the battery (took three tries) to get it running. All displays blank. Message on radio said “Update failed – see dealer to restore system” in multiple languages. Since it was Sunday arrange with OnStar for a tow truck on Monday. When tow truck arrived, driver wanted to see the problem. Started truck and everything came up working. Tried it three times and everything looked good. Cancelled the tow truck and drove 150 miles home with no issues. Drove it to the dealership and they spent 3 hours going over everything including reloading some software and clearing error logs. Tech said you are good to go and should have no more issues. On the way home made a stop and guess what? Got a message on the radio display “Vehicle update available, install now or cancel”. Called the dealership and they said to go ahead and do the install but stay in the truck and watch it. The next day did the install. Takes about 15 minutes with a lot of “clicking” and lights flashing on the driver display. So far, it’s working fine with no issues. Keeping fingers crossed!!
Just happened to me for the third time. Lordie it’s getting hard to keep liking this truck.
I have a 2023 Colorado with 4400 miles. I woke today to a complete dead battery. I have it on a slow charge and after 5 hours am less than 25% I parked on my parking pad yesterday evening and everything was fine. This is a rea bummer. What if a person was off the road and had that happen in the deep dark woods in the snow. This was to be my last truck purchase and now I am bummed.
See my comments above. I bought a NOCO Boost Plus model GB40. Charged it up and keep it in the truck. It is supposed to be able to jump start the truck with a dead battery. I have not had to use it, yet. I think it cost about $75 when I got it. You can look up the specs online. Gives me some piece of mind in case this problem comes up again. GM has two service updates relating to this problem, N232411313 and N232425820.
Hi Bob, hope everything works out if you need to use your NOCO Boost. I also bought a NOCO 10, but it is a battery charger. I am extremely hesitant to jump start this truck with all the issues that others have had. I am hoping if I am ever in that situation I can charge it up for a few hours without resorting to jumping it. Keep us posted. The booster I have is a Hulkman and it works great and holds a charge for months and months.
Search for the video of the useful “HACK” where a diesel pick-up truck owner ( their glow plugs take a lot of “juice” before a cold engine will start ) with a dead battery(s) uses a 20V Power tool battery to successfully “jump” his cold truck and start it. I’ve lost the link but you insert a Quarter into the positive and negative “slots” ON TOP of the power-tool battery (which looked like a larger amp hour batt., not a little 2ah battery) not the little contacts where it connects to the tool, hook-up your jumper cables to the protruding Quarters, wait three minutes or so and it WORKS ! Quarters were used because they are easier to grip but some use pennies probably because of the Copper content. The Power tool battery had a full charge as shown by the LED bar graph on one end of the battery.
Has anyone experienced issues with the heads up display? Mine works about 90% of the time. Also, any problems charging your iphone (iphone 13) with the wireless charger? Mine doesn’t work.
I called GM about this issue and they told me they didn’t consider it to be an issue. All I have to do is drive the vehicle every one or two days and when not driving keep the FOB more that 30 feet away from the vehicle because it continuously communicates with the vehicle thus draining the battery. Can you believe that? GM told me they don’t consider this to be a lemon law issue. I did buy a jump start because I don’t want to be stranded. But for this issue, I do love my Canyon.
My Chevy Colorado has not done the total battery drain issue since the Dealer reprogramed the computer. It has been since January 22nd and everything seems fine now. Crossing my fingers that the glitch is corrected. Get your computer reprogramed before it happens to you and tell your friends to do the same. It may not be a lemon law issue but its a real pain in the ass. To wake to a dead truck with less than 5,000 miles is a shock and every Canyon or Colorado owner should have a reprograming done and a free dinner too. No dinner here but the truck is still keeping a charge.
My battery drain issue occurred after it was reprogrammed.
Well it happened again less than 7,000 miles on my 2023 Colorado. The service department made the computer fix to the software and here we go again. Same issue once woke to a totally dead battery overnight. I charged the battery and took it to the service center on Wednesday and here we are now Monday with no answers except that they installed a new battery kept it over the weekend & it is dead again at the shop. Oh boy we are having some fun now.
Since the dealership recharged my dead battery the start/stop no longer works. I suspect the software has determined that the battery isn’t charged enough for the start/stop to work. Not the end of the world but a new vehicle should work.
Drove an hour non-stop yesterday and the start/stop worked for a couple of stops and then quit working. So, not only is this a battery drain issue, I believe the alternator/battery combination is not sufficient for this vehicle.
Still doing some Testing to try and ID what the cause is for a Drained / Dead Battery. But most anything dealing with Electronics when Intermittent is a long slow process sometimes. I have had a Dead Battery 2 times Now. I am now looking at the Truck Bed Cap Wiring first time I used This Truck Accessory Company but have had a bed cap on my last 5 Chevrolet Trucks and only had a possible issue with This One? Found the wiring was tyrapped to the Tail Light metal frame housing which has sharp edges and over time might be causing the Drain? Will Know better on Friday as it will be 5 days of letting the Colorado Truck Sit. Takes about 4 days the last 2 times. Cut the Tyrap and added some Electrical Tape to the Metal Housing / Frame as well as wrapped the Wires with several wraps. Sad that you pay a lot today for a Bed Cap and Hope they Know how to Connect the Wiring but maybe Not? So now since I did a Little checking my 2022 Colorado has had No OTA Software Updates or at least that is what shows on the Infotainment “Vehicle Updates” Settings. Many things that could Cause this and having a Dead Battery twice has that weaken the Battery’s Life? Just learning more as to the OTA.s and Settings never needed to know Before. Just some Observations with a New Truck and The Constantly Changing Technology that comes with One. Never heard of the ability of OTA’s till Recently.
My two week old to me 2024 canyon at4 came up with a dead battery this am. Gotta say I was a Ford guy all my life but loved the look of this so much I bought one……really second guessing that move now after reading this comment section.
Can’t believe this is still happening to 2024 models. I have a 2023 canyon elevation and I had the same issue, took an hour for my guy to jump it. Had black screens. Drove it to the dealer. Got the software update. Picked it up a few days later- haven’t had an issue since after almost a year.
shame on the dealership for not keeping up on GM issues. Be sure to get a new battery.
2023 Chevy Colorado with LESS THAN 6300 miles!!!!!
On 11/23/2024, I discovered that my battery was completely dead. The key fob didn’t even open the doors. Fortunately, the truck was in my driveway, not some remote location. I am sooo mad right now. After reading all of the comments, it’s obvious that I am NOT the only person that has suffered due to GM’s incompetence and that GM hasn’t really made it right with its customers. Maybe we should see if the 2023 Colorado fits the criteria for the ‘Lemon Law’ and demand our money back NOW. I will NEVER by another GM product.
