Chevy Traverse Inventory Improves Again In August 2023

Across the United States, inventory levels of the Chevy Traverse improved once again as of the beginning of August 2023, GM Authority sources familiar with the matter tell us.

There were 7,900 units of the Chevy Traverse on the ground at dealerships as of early August 2023, with an additional 6,600 examples of the full-size crossover en route to dealers. This gives the Traverse a 19 days supply, meaning there is sufficient Traverse inventory for 19 days at the current sales pace. As context, a 60 days supply is considered optimal across the industry.

It’s worth noting that Traverse sales in July 2023 were highest for a month of July since 2019.

Notably, this is the second consecutive monthly rise in inventory for the Chevy Traverse. In July 2023, the Bow Tie brand’s full-size crossover featured an 18 days supply with 7,500 units on dealer lots, while in June 2023, Traverse posted a 16 days supply figure with 7,000 units on the ground. Before that, May 2023 figures reflected a 17 days supply with 7,300 units on the ground and 6,600 units in transit, along with a 19 days supply with 8,000 units on dealership lots and another 6,800 en route for April 2023.

In regard to sales numbers, the Chevy Traverse had a strong showing for Q2 2023, with sales jumping considerably when compared to the same timeframe last year.

In the United States, Chevrolet Traverse deliveries totaled 37,148 units in Q2 2023, an increase of about 78 percent compared to 20,842 units sold in Q2 2022.

In the first six months of the year, Traverse sales increased about 55 percent to 68,681 units.

As a reminder, the current 2023 Chevy Traverse is offered with the naturally aspirated 3.6L V6 LFY gasoline engine, rated at 310 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque, while output is directed to the ground via the GM nine-speed automatic transmission.

Under the skin, the Traverse rides on the long-wheelbase variant of the GM C1 platform, while production takes place at the GM Lansing Delta Township plant in Michigan.

It’s worth noting that General Motors recently revealed the next-gen Traverse, which will feature a complete overhaul as compared to the current model.

  1. Thanks for the update. I just picked one up yesterday that had just come into dealer stock and was built 100% the way I wanted it. The 2023 Traverse is an underrated vehicle. Coming from a 5th Gen Explorer, I am really impressed.

  2. Buy a 2023 now if you seek one, since supply may evaporate by the end of September. For production of the new 2024 model year third generation Traverse to begin in mid-December, it is likely that Lansing would need to end 2023 model year vehicles by the end of October. However, it appears that a major UAW strike may become a reality and last from mid-September through early-mid October. If so, the last 2023 Traverse vehicles may roll off the line the second week of September, get to Chevy dealers in October, and be totally sold out by the first week of November. Such an unpleasant prospect would leave Chevy dealers with no 2023 or 2024 Travere vehicles to sell for nearly four months from 11/23 to 2/24. Hence, buyers should buy now. While dealers should hold on and sell any available 2023’s above MSRP.
