Chevy Traverse Inventory Worsens In June 2023

Sources familiar with the matter tell GM Authority that inventory levels of the Chevy Traverse across the United States fell once more as of the beginning of June 2023.

There were 7,000 units of the Chevy Traverse on the ground at dealerships as of June 1st, 2023, with an additional 7,200 examples of the full-size crossover en route to dealers. This gives the Traverse a 16 days supply, meaning there is sufficient Traverse inventory for 16 days at the current sales pace. As context, a 60 days supply is considered optimal.

It’s worth noting that this is the third consecutive month of decline in days supply for the Chevy Traverse, as May 2023 figures reflected a 17 days supply with 7,300 units on the ground and 6,600 units in transit. Before that, the Traverse boasted a 19 days supply with 8,000 units on dealership lots and another 6,800 en route for April 2023.

Notably, inventory levels had been gradually rising before April 2023. Starting in January 2023, the Traverse had a 16 days supply with 6,043 units on the ground and 9,616 units in transit. Then, in February 2023, the Traverse had a 17 days supply with roughly 5,000 units on the ground and 8,200 units in transit. Finally, in March 2023, the Traverse had a 21 days supply with 7,200 units on the ground and 7,000 more units in transit.

As far as sales figures are concerned, the Chevy Traverse had a strong Q1 2023, with sales noticeably rising as compared to the same timeframe last year. In fact, the Bow Tie brand’s full-size crossover jumped to third in its segment during Q1 2023.

Chevrolet Traverse Sales - Q1 2023 - United States

In the United States, Chevrolet Traverse deliveries totaled 31,533 units in Q1 2023, an increase of about 34 percent compared to 23,464 units sold in Q1 2022.

As a reminder, the 2023 Traverse is powered by the naturally aspirated 3.6L V6 LFY gasoline engine, rated at 310 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque, and the GM nine-speed automatic transmission.

Under the skin, the Traverse rides on the long-wheelbase variant of the GM C1 platform. Production takes place at the GM Lansing Delta Township plant in Michigan.

Notably, the next-gen Traverse is expected to debut sometime during the 2023 calendar year.

  1. Raw inventory was actually up a bit for June, but based on the information in the story, it has remained very stable all year.

GM doesn’t (officially) provide monthly sales/inventory information, (Notice only January is an ‘exact’ number) but even if the others are accurate, I’m not sure what is newsworthy about very stable inventory levels?

  2. Wonder how well Vehicles would sell if Biden wasn’t in charge and didn’t have Marxist Management of the Country. Thet’s the Problem.

    1. @ Robert Adams,

SO TRUE!!! Also, the Traverse is selling very well because the Yukon/Tahoe have sky rocketed in prices that have forced many families from buying them.

The Traverse is a well made vehicle. A nice fit with those with kids to haul around.

      1. What model did you order? I ordered an LT Cloth AWD(Canadian Spec). Only added the 360° Camera. Ordered last week of January 2023 came in Middle of May, so under 4 months. Have they told you why it’s held up for so long?

  3. It’s nice that you gave these raw numbers but what is causing that? Inventories should be way up…. What’s causing the lack of production?

    1. They are making more! Q1 sales were up 35% YOY, yet inventory has remained at/near the same level for 2023.

Maybe GM’s target inventory level is not what GMA thinks it should be?…

    1. Have you talked to your Dealer? Something is holding up your order, no-way it should be that long; my Dealer has 30+ “Premium” Traverse in stock, any of us could drive one home tonight.

  6. Ed, talked to the dealer on many occasions. My salesman talked to his manager who talks to the district manager and
so on an so on. Never get a direct answer. The vehicle was built at the end of October 2022. Has not been seen since
then. I think the customer service at GM is at an all time low. I am afraid my Traverse is sitting on lot somewhere
rusting out. Any words of encouragement. Should I cancel the order??? Should I keep waiting???? It is coming up
    on a Year..

    1. WOW that is awful, I knew something was up, I’d be tempted to order a 2024.

Last year GM rented a lot near us it was the lot of a former mall, so a big parcel, full of Traverse and other locally made GM’s, it’s been empty 9 months or more now, yours could be waiting for something, but I wouldn’t want it after sitting so long.
