2024 Chevy Traverse: A Closer Look At The Rear Pillar

There’s an all-new generation for the Chevy Traverse crossover set to debut for the 2024 model year, with updates expected to include a new engine, an overhauled interior, and a new trim level lineup, as well as a redesigned exterior. To this lattermost point, the 2024 Chevy Traverse will introduce a new profile that incorporates restyled rear pillars. Now, we’re taking a closer look at these pillars and comparing them to recently released concept images.

For those readers who may have missed it, the GM Design social media team recently released a concept sketch from GM Creative Designer Jacky Zhan that shows off a rear three-quarters view of some unnamed Chevy utility model. Looking more closely at the concept’s rear pillar, we can’t help but notice a striking resemblance to recent spy shots of the all-new 2024 Chevy Traverse.

Placed side by side, the resemblance between the concept image and the prototype 2024 Chevy Traverse is quite clear. Both incorporate a similar fin-like shape for the C-pillar, rising up to a narrow section around the roof that gives the rearmost glass a distinct obtuse trapezoidal shape. Also of note are the roof rails, as well as a roof-mounted spoiler that protrudes off the top of the hatch.

Although the 2024 Chevy Traverse will be roughly same size as the current model, the next-gen crossover will be more truck-like in its execution and aesthetic. Per a GM Authority exclusive, the new 2024 Chevy Traverse will also offer a new Z71 trim level, underlining its latest rough-and-ready attitude. The RS and High Country trim levels are expected to be deleted from the lineup with the next-gen model.

Under the hood, the 2024 Chevy Traverse will feature the new turbocharged 2.5L I4 LK0 gasoline engine. Inside the cabin, expect to find new digital screens, including a large digital gauge cluster behind the steering wheel and a large touchscreen on the dash.

    Let’s be honest here…how many Traverse’s are we really going to see out of their natural element (mall parking lots and elementary school pickup lines)?

    1. The same can be said about most new SUVs with “rugged” packages. They’re popular because of the idea they *can* have off-road adventures, not necessarily that they will.

    2. That’s also true for most new full-sized pickups, they are expensive suburban driveway queens. Especially the HD diesels, I always chuckle but hey they keep the stock price up and look tough in the parking lot of the elementary school soccer fields. Too bad for their kids who have no college fund.

  3. If it was only rear wheel drive true low range 4×4 Colorado based ,it could go after 4runner grand Cherokee buyers gm has nothing in that category

    2. Fully agree. Build something rugged instead of these wimpy FWD CUV’s. Give us the choice of RWD or 4WD and enough power to tow a reasonable amount. Tahoes and Suburbans are great but just too big for some of us. One more thing-no more EV’s!

    3. The Traverse and Blazer already go after the Grand Cherokee. The 4runner isn’t in a class large enough to justify when people realize how bad it is, how small it is and how much worse it rides with worse mpg for capability 98% never use. They have done it right, that is a horrible competitor to go after.

      1. Grand Cherokee is a true off roader it has a low range transfer case ,blazer is a soft roader terverse is a 3row cuv soft roader soccer parent wagon

  4. A floating C-pillar, “oh-goodie”?…

    Since the Terrain has that feature and Acadia is moving to this platform, are we sure this isn’t a GMC?

  5. Looks cool. Too bad they lost me as a customer in this segment with the “new” (read: neutered) engine. They had their chance to make this longitudinal/RWD-biased by just dropping the 2.7L and 8L90 into it off the shelf.

    Vehicle would have had massive payload and towing capabilities, probably best in segment. Instead, it’s just another same-ol’-same-ol’ crossover.

    GM is too scared of building this thing into something world-class, out of fear it would cannibalize Tahoe/Yukon sales.

I hate the “C” Pillar design as well as everyone else that I have talked to it looks like a Nissan Pathfinder design “C” pillar terrible stick with the original I would not buy it with that design and I’m sure after talking to others they would not buy either I own a 2023 and I was willing to trade it in for a 2024 But with that design I am not looking forward to it at all you can do what you want to the engine in the interior but the first impression impression is the exterior and that ruins it There are other images that people have made of the traverse that would blow that 1 away you should have second thoughts before putting that one on the market
