GM Design Sketch Hints At Next-Gen Chevy Traverse

The 2023 Chevy Traverse arrives as the sixth model year for the current second-generation crossover, while the forthcoming 2024 Chevy Traverse is expected to introduce a full generational overhaul complete with new styling and a laundry list of upgrades and changes. Now, we’re checking out this official GM rendering image, which may in fact preview the next-gen Chevy Traverse design.

Recently hitting social media via the official GM Design Instagram feed (@generalmotorsdesign), the rendering is clearly at an early concept stage, but still sets the tone for what the next-gen Chevy Traverse may look like.

They close-cropped image of a rendering of the next-gen 2024 Chevy Traverse.

Offering only a rear three-quarters view, the GM Design rendering shows us a large utility vehicle with a swept-back roof and slim body, all of which is perched over a set of massive wheels and tires. The rendering was done by Jacky Zahn, and includes the Chevy Bowtie in the wheel center caps and in the center of the rear hatch, while the Chevrolet script is proudly displayed along the lower running boards.

Despite the obvious styling flare that is characteristic of most concept vehicles, such as the oversized running gear, ultra-thin lighting elements, and low profile roof, there are still several styling bits that may find their way onto the production vehicle. These include the styling enhancements seen around the C-pillar and D-pillar, where silver trim is wrapped around the rear side windows, as well as the off-color body cladding seen around the wheel wells, side skirts, and rear bumper. While stylized for this concept, the thin rear lighting may also indicate where GM Design is headed with the tail lights for the next-gen Chevy Traverse.

Per previous GM Authority coverage, the next-generation 2024 Chevy Traverse has been caught testing as a prototype. In addition to new exterior styling and an overhauled cabin, the upcoming crossover is also expected to drop the High Country trim level, while also adding a new Activ trim to the lineup. In addition, the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine makes the most sense as the powerplant of choice for the next-generation crossover.

    1. GM either needs to hire some new designers or new management staff that approves things. Their designs get worse all the time. That and they seem to get larger and bulkier where outward vision isn’t as good.

  4. Hint? That could be a Chevy/Toyota/ford/bmw/baojun, I mean, is a very rough sketch of a vehicle with 3 pillars and monster truck wheels. I drew these as a 4 year old. What’s the point of these sketches? They need to hire real concept sketch artists like they hand in the 50’s.

    1. These are quick ideations, they exaggerate all the body lines/designs through multiple sketches to pick out ones the like to pursue later in the proper sketches.

  6. The custom shops can fix what Detroit didn’t do. Take about 5 inches out of the wheel well space for starters and do a few other individualized seasonings and then it might look better.

  7. You guys, this is how sketches look. They’re not meant to be realistic. Oversized wheels, over emphasized design features, often a chop top look.

The only problem is when they keep that sketch look too much (Camaro, i’m looking at you).

    1. 100% correct. It’s just a concept sketch.

Design Staff loves to throw these out there to generate interest and HINT at certain design elements. They bare very little resemblance to the final production intent vehicles. These concept sketches are then retired and decorate the corridors of Design Staff for scenery.

    1. Haha…YES!!! my thoughts exactly. This is great for a Hot Wheels design….NOT a Chevy Traverse (or other family hauler)

  9. Here we go again. Tiny windows. That is in part, what killed the Camaro.

    1. good to see someone else who doesn’t like a higher beltline (small windows).

  10. I like the double taillight set up, with the thin upper bar and then the Camaro style lights underneath, this thing is going to have a lot of rear illumination.
