The GM Authority Take

Chevy Brazil sales posted another healthy increase in February, after starting the new calendar year in the green via a strong double-digit increase in the first month of the year. As such, this solid performance represents the marque’s second consecutive monthly increase in the South American country, bucking the 2.68 percent downturn in the Brazilian market.

In February, several Chevy models managed to increase their sales volumes in Brazil, including the best sellers Chevy Onix and Tracker. The Onix’s slight increase was enough to strengthen its solid leadership position as the best-selling vehicle in the Brazilian market, while the Tracker remained among the country’s best sellers. In addition, the all-new Chevy Montana posted the largest increase of all Chevrolet models with 350 units in its first few days of being on sale, while the Chevy Spin MPV added an additional 1,221 deliveries year-over-year.

Unlike the good performance of the aforementioned models, the Chevy Cruze, S10 and TrailBlazer SUV suffered notable sales drops in February. Among them, the most affected was the Cruze with a huge contraction of 87 percent during the month, and a similar performance during year to date. This represents the lowest level that the compact car has recently registered in Brazil, showing a lower volume of production at the GM Alvear plant in Argentina.

  • People mock FIAT but Brazilians love them. I know it's thought of as a domestic but quality can't be that poor to best Chevy & VW. I know one vehicle has a lot of Dart underpinnings and, regardless of population opinion, Dart was a nice ride,

    • The only point in which the Brazilian Fiat's are lacking is in safety, largely due to the old platforms. The only exception is Toro, as it shares a platform with Compass. GM and VW models, despite being safer, are much criticized for the quality of the finish, even if it is merely a rigid plastic.
