The Chevy Express nameplate has been in production for nearly three decades, originally replacing the Chevrolet Van in 1996. Now, we’re taking a closer look at the latest 2023 model year, with a focus on the 2023 Chevy Express towing capacities.
As in years past, the 2023 Chevy Express is available in multiple configurations and with multiple powertrain options. Under the hood, customers can specify the Chevy Express with one of two gasoline-fueled engines, including either the naturally aspirated 4.3L V6 LV1 gasoline engine, or the naturally aspirated 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline engine. Critically, the latest 2023 model year drops the 2.8L I4 LWN turbodiesel Duramax engine offered previously.
Specs for the naturally aspirated 4.3L V6 LV1 gasoline engine include 276 horsepower at 5,200 rpm and 298 pound-feet of torque at 3,900 rpm, plus direct injection, variable valve timing, and an aluminum block. Output is directed through the GM eight-speed automatic transmission.
Meanwhile, the naturally aspirated 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline engine is rated at 401 horsepower at 5,200 rpm and 464 pound-feet of torque at 4,000 rpm. However, rather the GM eight-speed automatic that connects to the V6, output from the V8 is sent through the GM six-speed heavy-duty transmission.
Both configurations include a 3.42 axle ratio, with rear-wheel drive offered as the exclusive drive type.
The Chevy Express is also offered in a number of different body configurations, including as a Cargo van and as a Passenger van, as well as a regular wheelbase and extended wheelbase configuration. The Express is also offered in a cutaway body configuration.
With all of that now covered, let’s take a closer look at the 2023 Chevy Express towing capacities:

As we can see, the highest 2023 Chevy Express towing capacity available is 10,000 pounds, as offered by Express Cargo models equipped with the 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline engine. The lowest Chevy Express towing capacity is 6,300 pounds, as offered by Passenger 2500 Extended Wheelbase models equipped with the 4.3L V6 LV1 gasoline engine.
As a reminder, the Chevy Express Passenger and Cargo cans are produced at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri, with the GMT 610 platform providing the bones.

Finally, this van should see a total makeover sometime next year as a 2025 model.
When can I get one that I pre-ordered with the 6.6l v8? Would like it before mid spring. Been waiting for it for a while.please help. They tell me at multiple dealerships in CT that the engine has not been started yet and I need this for a small business sooner than later.
I,m in the same boat..Been waiting since Aug 2022,,,,Not a peep about when I,ll even see it…
Dang, that sucks.
Wouldn’t the 5.3 be a great fit for this?
NOW imagine it with the new Duramax 3.0 litre diesel. ;}
I tried ordering a 6.6 V8 in a 2023 Express 3500 Passenger van last July but had to place the order with the 4.3 V6. I was told by two dealerships that the V8 is on the option sheet but is not available in either the Express or Savanah vans. My Express van came into the dealership last month in late December.
I ordered one in Canada about the same time, and was just called today that I can’t get the 6.6. I need it to tow a medium size trailer, don’t know what to do now. 🙁
I too order a van 18 months ago because of the 6 6L.
Now can only get a 4.3L. I am a Chevy van advocate and lover. However i have been forced to a pickup. It will not be a Chevy. Very sad.
The next generation could go exclusively 2.7. Don’t say it can’t because not only has the Colorado/Canyon, but the 2.7 is only 34 lb-ft of torque less than the 6.6. These vans will see work, but not hd truck type work. The 6.6 isn’t needed in this segment, and everyone in this segment is 6 cylinder or less nowadays.
6-Cylinders must work harder to move a vehicle and eat just the same amount of fuel and that is why I NEVER want a 6-cylinder. Might as well get a V-8 and have power on tap and a longer engine life. Why do you think it’s the only engine available?
GM should put up or cancel availibility of the 6.6 Express or Savana Van.. If I dont see mine by May I,ll be surfing elsewhere. Will I get interest on my deposit???Ha-HA
I agree I with you Ed. I would like answers on what’s is going on at least! I understand they are huge manufacturer but I like many am a small business and should not have to worry if I am gonna be able to get my van I ordered and put a deposit on! Just tell us if you can do it or not and stop procrastinating! I don’t get it I spend on a lot of money in the Chevy world and this is what I get in return!
In the listing of express van 2023 towing capacity, the express 3500 extended passenger van is not listed.
What is the price of the base model Chevy Van with the V6 engine.? Is this a reliable Van overall/ Cargo van. Is it ever on sale priced/ thanks
