The 2023 Cadillac Lyriq is a high-tech luxury crossover vehicle infused with the latest GM EV tech, but at the end of the day, it still has to do everything expected of a modern crossover. That includes carrying lots of stuff, and to that end, GM will in fact offer a roof rack for the Cadillac Lyriq.
Those GM fans paying particularly close attention may have noticed that the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq does not incorporate any longitudinal roof rails onto which one could mount a roof rack. While the design certainly looks nice and clean from an aesthetics and aerodynamics point of view, such an omission could affect those owners looking to maximize the Lyriq’s practicality.
That said, GM will offer a solution. In a recent interview with GM Authority Executive Editor Alex Luft, Cadillac Lyriq Product Manager Steve Mertes said that Lyriq customers will be able to purchase a clamp-style roof rack (or cross bars) that will secure to the roof via C-shaped hardware. In fact, the Cadillac Lyriq does include roof rack clamp points within the upper door jambs specifically for this purpose. The Cadillac Lyriq roof rack will even be lockable and will include Cadillac branding.
That all may come as a surprise for some readers, given the Lyriq’s streamlined design, which does not appear to have the provisions for extra cargo capacity on the roof. However, it makes sense if customers will use the Lyriq as they might any other crossover, regardless of what’s under the hood.
Speaking of what’s “under the hood” (at least metaphorically speaking, as the Lyriq doesn’t actually have a hood), the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq is equipped with a 100.4-kWh GM Ultium battery pack that juices a rear-mounted GM Ultium Drive electric motor. Output is rated at 340 horsepower and 324 pound-feet of torque, while the upcoming Lyriq AWD model will throw down more than 500 pound-feet of torque via a dual-motor powertrain.
