Land Rover has unveiled the 2023 Range Rover Sport, debuting a fresh third-generation vehicle poised to indirectly rival the Cadillac XT6.
Outside, the 2023 Range Rover Sport rocks some fresh exterior styling, with a variety of horizontal elements and smoothed-out lines that emphasize the vehicle’s streamlined appearance and natural width. LED lighting lights the way forward and in the rear, while the automaker claims an overall drag coefficient of 0.29.
The broad styling elements continue in the cabin, where we spot a thick dash and large digital screens as well. To that latter point, the 2023 Range Rover Sport features a13.1-inch curved touchscreen and 13.7-inch Interactive Driver Display, while the infotainment system is equipped for over-the-air updates, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and wireless device charging.
The trim levels on offer include SE, SE Dynamic, and Autobiography, with a First Edition available through the first year of production.
As for the greasy bits, the 2023 Range Rover Sport is available with two mild-hybrid 3.0L six-cylinder gasoline engines, a plug-in electric hybrid gasoline engine, and a new twin-turbo V8 producing 523 horsepower. A pure electric powertrain is also set to debut for 2024. Each engine connects to an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive as standard.
Under the skin, the 2023 Range Rover Sport is built on top of the automaker’s mixed-metal (MLA-Flex) architecture, which includes a claimed 35-percent increase to torsional rigidity as compared to the previous Range Rover Sport. The wheelbase is also three inches longer. Handling the vehicle is Dynamic Air Suspension with switchable volume air springs and twin-valve active dampers.
While the 2023 Range Rover Sport competes with the Cadillac XT6 in regards to size, it is much costlier. It’s available to order now, with pricing starting at $84,350, including destination. Opt for the range-topping, V8-powered First Edition, and expect to dole out at least $122,850.

No one cross shops a RR sport with an XT6, they are not even close!
XT6 is in a class by itself
Yeah, about 2 levels below this.
Can XT6 handle a V8??????
Could’ve easily handled the 3.6TT that was in the XTS, but Cadillac…
And no an XT6 isn’t even thought of by anyone shopping a RR Sport. Sad but true.
In what World is the XT6 remotely close to that segment vehicle?
April 1st has already passed you guys HaHa
I know!
So it a Chevy Traverse rival too…
I think the XT6 is a very nice SUV. It would be better if it were built on a rear wheel drive platform, but regardless its no competition to a Range Rover Sport. The RR Sport is in a whole different class.
It goes without saying but, yes, GMA constantly tries to elevate Cadillac and claim their products compete with, or are “rivals” for, Tier 1 luxury brands. They don’t. They haven’t for a while. Cadillac competes with Acura and maybe Lincoln in Tier 2. Even Genesis has passed Cadillac. It’s a shame but it’s reality and it can’t be changed by claiming otherwise.
Unless Genesis has an average monthly transaction price @ $70K close to Cadillac and has a flagship going out the door on average of $100K or above, Genesis has not surpass Cadillac as tier 1.
Comparison this is not, it’s delusion or desparation. XT6 to new RR Sport, well, that’s akin to Chrysler’s comparison of the Dodge Spirit to the then-new 1990 Honda Accord. Had the XT6 been built on an Omega, then maybe, depending on the interior. Here’s to a successful Lyric!!
Those Dodge commercials were painful to watch.
The XT6 is aimed at RX not this. I hope they still doing the VSS-R for SUVs, I can see XT6 and Enclave rwd while Traverse and Acadia remains fwd based..
The RR Sport is a coupe version of the Range Rover so how does it compete with the XT6?
If Cadillac had a coupe version of the Escalade, then the conversation would be different.
John_LS39,
Have you looked at the Genesis G90? It’s an absolutely beautiful car and with each new product launch Genesis reaches higher than before. I don’t care what Cadillac sells the Escalade for, everyone knows it’s just a blinged-out Tahoe.
Cadillac hasn’t been in Tier 1 for a long time and, of course, Genesis never has been but they’re getting really close while Cadillac keeps losing ground.
