National Corvette Museum Open, NCM Motorsports Park Closed Amid Tornado Fallout

The National Corvette Museum remains open for business amid the fallout from the deadly tornado that descended upon the Midwest over the weekend, however the nearby NCM Motorsports Park circuit is closed.

In a Facebook post published on Saturday, December 11th, the National Corvette Museum said its facilities were “spared from significant damage,” in the storm, which devastated many surrounding areas in southern Kentucky. Despite this, the facility remained closed on Saturday and Sunday, as the building was without power and the surrounding roads were left in a hazardous condition. The NCM reopened for business on Monday, but encouraged would-be visitors “to only travel when safe to do so.”

Unfortunately, the NCM Motorsports Park wasn’t quite as lucky. The Corvette Museum said the circuit, which sits adjacent to the NCM on the other side of I-65, “sustained significant damage to the property,” and has since been forced to cancel all future events until further notice. This includes the ongoing Twinkle at the Track event, which allows visitors to drive around the track at night and view various Christmas and holiday-themed light displays.
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear said Sunday the storm was the most devastating tornado to ever hit the state, with at least 80 confirmed deaths as of this writing. President Biden also approved emergency assistance for the state on Sunday and is expected to visit areas hardest-hit by the storm on Wednesday.
In addition to the NCM Motorsports Park, the tornado also damaged the GM Bowling Green Assembly plant, forcing GM to temporarily close the facility Monday. The plant sustained roof damage and minor damage to an employee entrance, while social media videos also showed one section of the 1.7 million square foot complex on fire.
