2022 GMC Terrain Officially Announced In Mexico

Four months after its official presentation in March, the refreshed 2022 GMC Terrain has been officially announced in Mexico, the only country where the model is currently being manufactured. General Motors just confirmed that the 2022 Terrain will hit the Mexican market later this year with significant design updates and distinctive trim levels that will make it stand out in its segment.

The refreshed 2022 GMC Terrain represents the fifth model year of the second-generation crossover, and includes a substantial makeover, inspired by the latest evolution of GMC’s design language. In addition, the brand’s entry-level vehicle will expand its lineup in Mexico with the addition of two trims while increasing its technological and safety features.

“The GMC Terrain is proudly made in Mexico and its quality is recognized by GMC customers worldwide,” said Marketing Manager for GMC at GM Mexico, Wilberto del Ángel, in a statement. “For the 2022 model year, it will incorporate important improvements and novelties in design, equipment and trim levels, and we are sure that this refreshed model will strengthen the position of the brand’s compact SUV, making it stand out in its highly competitive segment,” he added.

The main new aspect of the refreshed 2022 GMC Terrain, both in Mexico and in other markets, is the introduction of the AT4 trim level for first time in the model’s history. In addition to the now more-imposing range-topping Denali, the new 2022 Terrain AT4 has a unique look that includes chrome accents, black wheel with off-road tires as well as standard all-wheel drive and a steel front skid plate.

Although the definitive lineup hasn’t yet been announced for the crossover in Mexico, GM hinted at a Black Edition in the Latin country, as a local variant of the Elevation Edition, as is the case with the GMC Acadia. All versions will arrive with a generous list of technological and safety features, led by the latest generation of the company’s infotainment system that integrates wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto along with Amazon Alexa.

The refreshed 2022 GMC Terrain will be available in Mexico during the last quarter of the year, aiming to improve its positioning in the country’s growing compact crossover segment. All details on trim levels, configurations and pricing for the 2022 Terrain for the Mexican market will be announced closer to its launch date.

  2. Looks good the refresh compliments the terrain but build it in North America . We’re I think quality would be better in my opinion and more jobs for the U S and CANADA

    1. You do realize that Mexico is in North America right? There have been zero quality issues between Mexico, US and Canada productions.

      1. Yes GM plants are all. Hilt to use the same standards and the newest plants tend to hold an edge often as they gave more up to date equipment.

People need to understand that quality in China and Mexico is on equal footing with American plants. It is time we become more competitive and also enforce the same restriction on China that they force on us.

    1. Can you name a manufacturer that doesn’t produce in Mexico?, you also realize Lat/AM is one of GMs major markets for decades even before NAFTA.

      1. No other car manufacturer produces more vehicles in Mexico then GM, that’s a fact.

And if you’re talking about the big 3, it’s not even close. Ford and chrysler are barely present in that country

        1. Gm also produces them there for export to other countries. This helps with taxes to other countries. Less taxes to export to other countries from Mexico than the US. How about also blaming the corrupt UAW, that’s the main reason many plants are not in the US.

          1. What in the world are you talking about? Tax? They produce them in.mexico to ship to other countries? They can’t do that in the US or Canada? There is no tax

  4. Earlier made a comment and made a mistake about building the terrain in North America and yes i realize Mexico is in North America meant to say built in the U S or CANADA originally the terrain was built in Canada just outside of Toronto And the build quality was impeccable fit and finished lot better and with the Denali trim vehicle was not overlooked in anyway every bolt and double check twice !!!

    1. It’s easier for them to simply hate.

Simple minds refuse to consider that there is an incredible world beyond the US. With their thinking, We should also disallow all US based companies from selling to every foreign country so we can handicap them even more. And all foreign owned manufactures should be banned from producing and selling any of their products within the US.

  13. Besides where its built same interior discontinue 2.0 engine going on 5th model year where other manufacturers bring out all new generation of models it is getting very hard to be a buyer. I love my 2019 blackoedition but they just seem to let models stagnate to long across whole lineup. Too bad they have so much talent working at gm but a penny pinching management.

  14. Question, why do some CUVs drive/ handle as if you are sitting on top of the vehicle? I recently traded my Terrain because I couldn’t adjust to the driving dynamics, as if it were a roller skate. I now have a new Envision, same size, same price, granted it’s on a different GM platform but it feels planted to road and I now feel like I’m “inside” the vehicle. Has anyone else experienced this?

  15. Hopefully, GM has listened to its customers concerning engines for the new 2022 Terrain – and beyond. The 4 cylinders have NOT been accepted by true loyalists who would like to see more power. I’m holding on to my 2017 Terrain with the 6 cylinder engine until such time as GM increases the size of its power plants for the new Terrain. I may have to switch brands and start buying my vehicles from another manufacturer that produces vehicles with engines that are powerful enough.

    1. My 2019 Terrain Denali has the 4 cyl 2.0 L Turbo engine. It has 25O some HP, and I average 24-29 mpg even when I punch the turbo on demand. GMC should have kept the 2.0 Turbo but went to one engine choice for 2020-2022 Terrains. For what I paid for the Denali version in 2019, I would not consider it again with just the 1.5, that offers a massive 80 less HP. Nothing but cosmetics and chrome now separate a Denali model from the next lower trim level. Therefore I’d have to reconsider even buying a new Terrain Denali. Why not put a 3.6 L 6 cyl in the Denali only, and watch sales move up?

      1. Totally agree with you Ron the 1.5 engine to small and not enough specially when u load vehicle with people and luggage very sluggish specially if you want to pass . The Denali no professional grade there with that tiny 1.5 engine . Gm drops the ball again . And some people don’t want a Buick envision or Cadillac xt4 the only way to get a 2.0 l engine !!!!
