Chevy Suburban Award Of Excellence Star Now In Arlington

The Chevy Suburban is the longest-running nameplate in automotive history, with more than 85 years of history behind it. That history includes numerous appearances in television and movies, and now, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has recognized the Chevy Suburban with its Award of Excellence, which has been placed in Arlington, Texas.

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce placed the Award of Excellence in the Arlington Entertainment District. Arlington is the home to GM’s Arlington Assembly plant, which produces GM’s line of full-size SUVs, including the Chevy Tahoe, GMC Yukon, Cadillac Escalade, and the Chevy Suburban.

“The Suburban is truly a staple in both Texas and Hollywood, and the city of Arlington is honored to play a role in recognizing the Suburban today and every day at the GM Arlington Assembly Plant,” said Arlington Mayor Jeff Williams. “We’re also proud to proclaim today, June 21, ‘Suburban Day’ to recognize the Suburban’s continuing legacy in Texas, Hollywood and around the world.”

According to GM, the Chevy Suburban has played a role in over 1,750 films and TV series, first appearing in theaters in 1952. The Suburban has also appeared in at least one TV series every year since 1956, and at least one movie every year since 1960. The Suburban is the first vehicle to receive an Award of Excellence from the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.

“There is no other character actor like the Chevy Suburban. It can fit into any type of role with ease,” said Hollywood Chamber of Commerce President Rana Ghadban. “When it arrives in a movie or TV series, it can instantly bring a feeling of significance, suspense or knowing the day is about to be saved. This marks the first Award of Excellence star outside of California. We are excited to permanently place the Suburban’s Award of Excellence star in its home state of Texas.”

Production of the Chevy Suburban at the Arlington facility first began in 1999. It’s estimated that there are nearly 200,000 Suburban models on the road in Texas, with one Suburban sold in the Lone Star state roughly every two hours.

The Chevy Suburban is all-new for the 2021 model year, entering a fresh twelfth generation with brand-new styling, new features, an independent rear suspension setup, and the latest technology.

  1. The Suburban is a fine example of American ingenuity in Chevrolet’s vehicle portfolio. Such an iconic and historic nameplate. It being the first vehicle nameplate to receive its own star on the Hollywood walk of fame is huge, further bolstering its reputation as one of Chevrolet’s heritage vehicles.

  5. I never wanted that Automatic Engine Stop/Start again feature (to save gas) whenever the vehicle is not moving
nor the Push/Pull buttons for going forward and Reverse. They said they eliminated the former for lack of “computer chips” ?
Were they thinking only that the manufacturing $ cost of push button shift is less than a shift handle and cable to the tranny ?
If it were an option, do the manufacturers really believe most Suburban and GMC drivers would prefer push button shift ?

    1. Rotary selectors and push/pull buttons are among the worst trends in the current automotive industry….It’s like if they really wanted to make things complicated instead of making them very simple, As you said if the shift lever was still available as an option almost nobody will order his SUV with this weird configuration as it will take time for people to get used to it.

  6. I bet the latest version of Suburban won’t get any quality awards given the number of recalls/TSBs issued so far..too many to mention here. Poor execution of an iconic chassis/brand.
