The GMAuthority Take
With ELR production having come to an end in February 2016, these results represent run-out sales of remaining inventory of the vehicle. Yet, as we have previously mentioned, the demise of the ELR does not necessarily mean the end of electrified Cadillac vehicles, as the prestige luxury brand is building similar technology found in the ELR into other vehicles. The upcoming Cadillac CT6 PHEV is just one example of this strategy.

Cadillac ELR is a reminder of how out of sync Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen is with the American consumers especially given the report where the Chevrolet Volt sales increased nearly 28-percent to 2,531 units in November 2016; one has to think a second generation Cadillac ELR with a longer battery range and better performance would have given sales similar to that of the ATS and CTS.
ELR is a coupe, so Mr. de Nysschen could always point to that.
The American consumer is also pretty out of sync on its own. A friend of mine doesn’t mnemonically retain that the Volt can drive past its battery.
A GM that sticks up for itself defiantly would make electrics the 3rd branch of Cadillacs and name them EV#.
Do full electrics and voltecs and beat into people’s brains with marketing. Have a sensible sub-label. Something like EV2 b238 or EV3 b53/g.
Don’t forget that the 2nd gen. should have a more realistic price point. I think that was the number one killer of sales for this car.
A version of the Volt or Bolt if done right could have worked.
The price , a small car from Cadillac , cheap gas prices , marketing and the consumer that seen the car as a re-badged Volt with Cadillac emblems killed what was a great looking car . Even auto journalists praised it .
Not sure JDN had much to do with the car but it just hit the bricks at launch . An expensive lesson learned by a division that seems to have no real direction at the moment .
The executives need to start building what the consumer wants from GM’s luxury division and quit trying to be something that it isn’t .
Units sold in 2015 do not have to be 2015MY, sort of how you can purchase a 2017 Camaro ZL1 in 2016.
the ELR is a POS…kill it please.
