General Motors Company Store Opens Its Doors In Renaissance Center

General Motors has officially opened its first company store in Detroit, Michigan at the Renaissance Center in Detroit, Michigan.

The company store is part of a larger renovation project that will take place over the next few years, which includes exterior remodeling and additional real estate inside. It will also include interactive displays for the public to experience each brand.

“We are excited to be able to bring the stories of our brands and our company to life by elevating the experience in our world headquarters for our employees and the public,” said Tim Mahoney, chief marketing officer of Global Chevrolet and leader of GM Global Marketing Operations. “The new GM Company Store allows us to offer merchandise from each of our U.S. brands celebrating our most iconic nameplates.”

The store is located on the first level of the RenCen and is stocked with Chevrolet, Buick, Cadillac and GMC merchandise. GM invites shoppers to visit the space between 9:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.

  1. No Pontiac or other old brand merchandise? What do they think the average age of a customer is going to be at this place?

98 years olds, who’ll just use their phone to order a Pontiac wall clock from Amazon.

Chances are GM isn’t going to lose much from not having Pontiac merch on site at the Ren Center. Nobody wants to promote old DEAD brands, and consumers sure as hell don’t want to be reminded of 2008 and the roller coaster it was.

  2. Cool, I will have to check it out the next time I’m in the Motor City. Guessing the hours are M-F with no weekend hours?

    1. I think they are planning on being open on some weekends when events are going on in the city. Probably because on most weekends the RenCen is pretty much a ghost town.

  3. I had 40 years of Pontiac’s. GTO, Judge, 3 Trans Am’s, etc. You can’t live in the past. Move on. BTW; I currently have a vette and love it as much or more as all of my previous Poncho’s, as great as they were.

  4. This is all about promoting the brands; not living in the past. There are plenty of other avenues to live in the past. Well said Grawdaddy ! In order to stay relevant today you need to be forward thinking and fail often, fail early and fail big. If you don’t you will become Polaroid, Kodak, Sears, Montgomery Ward, and on and on ! As a shareholder I applaud Mary Barra for her leadership in thinking forward.
Heck; If you want a Pontiac Trans Am go buy a new one from SLP or Trans Am Worldwide. They are a re badged Camaro which is what they always have been. Even the motor was an SBC since the third gen. As for me; I never want a tacky Pontiac clock :]
