Did The 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Run A 7:23 Nürburgring Lap?

Wikipedia isn’t the best to source, but we’re going to do it anyway.

Our friends at CamaroNews noticed a Wikipedia page for Nürburgring lap times had been updated to include the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. The time? 7:23.77.

If this time is legitimate, it would be an incredible improvement over the previous Camaro ZL1, which clocked a 7:41 time. Even more impressive is the time would sit one rung lower than the time clocked by the McLaren F1 in 1993, and faster than plenty of quick motoring metal.

General Motors or Chevrolet has not come forth to confirm the time, but the time frame does match up. The Camaro team has been in Germany throughout the summer to continue honing the 2017 Camaro ZL1 and continuing development of the car.

  1. Imagine what the Z28 could do.

  2. I see no reason why it would not. The upgrade to Alpha from Zeta and the other improvements in weight loss and brakes could make this gain very possible.

If the new GT350R can do it with 7:32 with less power and more weight then this time is reasonable.

The Z/28 might be a little faster in the tight parts as it will have mega down force. But it will lose a little top end with drag. The wing and farings are very functional on the new car.

    1. Has it been confirmed whether the LS7 or a different motor is being used?

      1. I have not seen anything conclusive yet. I assume it will be the CTSV engine just with a little difference in power.

I expect a variation of the LT4 in the ZL1

Now for the Z/28 the door is open to a modern DI Version of the LT engine we have not seen. The LS7 is not going to come in the same form as the past. That is certain.

  3. The GT350R never did it in 7:32. It was a rumor at best and never confirmed. That’s all this time is too. The time was entered into Wikipedia with zero sources. Therefore it’s not true until someone at GM or a video confirms it.

  5. As Jeremy Clarkson would say.. this is ballistic as it would place the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 just behind the 2011 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 which did it in 7:22.68.

    1. Jeremy bashes American cars all the time. It’s one of the things that bothers me with him. He praises German and English made cars but those cars always cost double or triple of the American car.

      1. Jeremy bashes about everything but Merc.

But on the other hand when he praises the car built by the fat men in Kentucky [as he says] you do know it is genuine praise. He loved the ZR1.

  8. I can’t believe this lap time showed up in a variety of car sites. I’m sorry, I have to say this, but I made up the lap time to–excuse my French–piss the Mustang GT350R owners off. I also was the one who made up the Hellcat Challenger lap time last year. So the lap time of the ZL1 is just a joke, not a reality. Have a good night, GM fans in my area!
