As some say, it’s true that a brand new car isn’t one of the most sound investments one can make. Instead, it’s normally better to locate that perfect vehicle in the pre-owned vehicle department; ideally with a factory warranty still in tact.
General Motors is looking to do just that, and keep customers for life, with the launch of its new online used car buying experience: Factory Pre-Owned Collection. The site, factorypreownedcollection.com, will launch in February and will provide a national inventory of low-mileage former General Motors lease, daily rental and company-owned vehicles never before available to the public.
The vehicles will also all retain an extended, factory bumper-to-bumper warranty, and no more than 37,000 miles will be clocked on the odometer.
“We know that many of our customers who are shopping for a used car want to complete more of the process online, and that number is growing,” Barra said. “GM is already a leader in online new car shopping with our Shop-Click-Drive service, and we are expanding it with the Factory Pre-Owned Collection, making GM the first automaker to offer this choice to consumers.”
Consumer will be able to compare prices and see what others have paid through Kelley Blue Book and even get a CarFax Vehicle History Report. And the service sounds easier than ever, too.
Find the used Chevrolet, Buick GMC or Cadillac that tickles you most, reserve the vehicle through a participating GM dealer using Shop-Click-Drive and finalize the purchase at the dealer itself.

This is OK but why not include a certified pre-owned private owner selection as well? Like many other MFG’s offer. The one issue I see here is that rentals are beat on or at the least neglected and while leases need to be maintained to a degree, they will be treated as still “disposable” at the end of a lease and not much better than a rental, if at all. Company owned vehicles are perhaps a coin toss at best. With the reduction in warranties being offered from the factory, I’m not sure if I’m willing to take that chance when there are private proudly owned and maintained vehicles with perhaps lower mileage for sale. With carfax in use we can find a quality low miles privately owned vehicle opposed to this offering. Bottom line is these vehicles are not used/abused with the perspective of long term ownership and there’s a complete disregard for the warranty and what happens when it expires. That’s someone else’s problem. No thank you GM.
