Though we’ve already seen pictures of the upcoming Cadillac XT5, we have yet to find out official information such as engines, transmission, features, equipment, and specifications about the crossover. For that, we’ll have to wait until the Dubai International Motor Show, which runs November 10-14.
As we wait, we thought we’d ask you to share your wishes and desires in everything from features and equipment to powertrains and pricing for the 2017 Cadillac XT5 in the comments just below.

3.0 TT
2nd row captains seats. Standard LED DRL. AWD focused. FWD only available until the CT3 comes out
Fairly certain that the 2.0T will be the base motor, the 3.6NA as the volume engine and would love to see the 3.0TT as a V-Sport version pushing out the same 400HP expected in the CT6.
Inside I expect and hope to see a refined and cohesive interior. Please have some real buttons and knobs to augment the capactive CUE inputs.
Also confident that the ride /handling tradeoff will be class leading.
Although I haven’t completely warmed to the exterior styling yet I will reserve judgment until I see one in the flesh.
center the emblem, for some reason that just bugs the crap out of me! lol
I’m probably in a huge minority when I say this but a Vsport model would be nice
I would wager to say that you are in the Majority.
Forgot this in my first post but Magnetic Ride Control is a must. I wish it was standard on all Cadillacs.
How about advertising that doesn’t feature guys who have sewing machines and play with dolls (not that there’s anything wrong with that) – but I wouldn’t air it on Penn St v Ohio St. Twice in the first half.
Who … is buying, and placing … the Dare Greatly media for Cadillac???
And the exterior of the car – guess it’s too late to make that anything special.
Maybe the guy in the Dare Greatly commercial could help it make it looks better.
How about giving it a proper RWD platform… you know, like every other respectable and desirable crossover out there from Benz and BMW, Caddy’s two primary competitors?
RWD is a fantasy for this generation XT5 . Cadillac has committed to a FWD chassis which has its positives (packaging, space efficiency, economies of scale in conjunction with the Acadia/Traverse /Enclave triplets ) but the best we can hope for is the chassis tuning is A1 and the V-Sport model is AWD and can really hustle.
Which is unfortunate, EvDave. Especially when it comes to economies of scale. Cadillac picked the wrong platform for that. The Alpha platform is much more deserving of this CUV’s help when it comes to paying for itself.
With two great car platforms in Alpha and Omega, there’s no excuse for Cadillac to look to other GM divisions for a CUV platform.
I completely agree Curtnik. I do not think Cadillac should share powertrains or chassis with any ‘lower ‘ divisions moving forward.
The ATS platform would have been a good basis for the XT5 although I wonder about the proportions, width and towing capacity from it.
In that line of thought, I hope they never pit it against the BMW X5 or Benz GLE. This crossover deserves to be a Buick.
This chassis is already going to spawn the next Enclave in it’s 3 row iteration.
Buick is also going to get the Envision.
I’m aware. It’s just that this car represents the best of what Buick can be, and the worst of what Cadillac still is.
From what I understand this is XT5 chassis is not the same as the chassis projected to be used for the Envision.
I could be wrong on that though.
Dynamic ride and handling capabilities for starters. Since GM insisted on making the XT5 FWD-based, they’re now tasked with the responsibility of stretching it to the limits and make sure its handling is comparable to its RWD competition; as best as they possibly can at least! Don’t let the Lexus RX be the standard for how the XT5 is to ride!!! Keep the focus on remaining competitive with the Germans! Perhaps it should be AWD-focused to achieve this.
Next, be sure that the XT5’s interior is world class! Let every surface be covered in soft, high quality leather, real wood and metal accenting, a functional infotainment system and tech not found on its corporate siblings! Let the powertrain and suspension be tuned specifically for Cadillac! The current SRX is nothing but a glorified Equinox when it comes to how it rides and handles! And the XT5 cannot be such! If Lincoln can engineer their latest CUVs to be better than its Ford counterparts, Cadillac should be able to as well; except times 50!!!
A decent turning radius. No greater than 39 feet curb to curb. The current SRX is >40, which is ridiculous for this size of vehicle. We traded ours in for a Mercedes because my wife complained so much.
I like for Cadillac bringing little touches like powered headrests and leg extenders on the seats. Soft closed doors and powered covered cup holders (like in current CTS) would be a nice touch.
That all sounds great but the only concern is the added weight of all those motors and cervos.
I pretty much agree with EvDave on everything.
Good visibility, good interior space, good trunk, optional AWD, good fuel economy, interior design similar to CT6 and CUE sistem strongly updated and faster
I hope they don’t go to a “Premium Pricing” plan like they did with the CTS. If the XT5 is priced $10,000 more than the out going SRX (as they did with the 2014 CTS) XT5s will collect dust on dealer lots just like the CTS does. I have a 2012 SRX Performance Edition. It listed for $49,000. I would like to replace it with a XT5, but if that model is in the $60,000 range, I’ll get the New Jaguar F-Pace instead, even though I’ve bought or leased 14 new Cadillacs since 1980.
If they price the XT5 similar to the GLE/X5/Q5, Cadillac can kiss their comeback goodbye. At that price point, they WILL get placed in comparison tests against the Germans, and they WILL get thrashed in front of consumers and enthusiasts.
So you think Cadillac can’t do it unless they deliberately handicap themselves and play the ‘value for money’ angle?
If they give it a refined high end interior, premium ride /handling and spirited drive characteristics that combine to put the XT5 at the top of the segment then they can command pricing parity.
“So you think Cadillac can’t do it unless they deliberately handicap themselves and play the ‘value for money’ angle?”
On this particular model? Yes. They don’t have a choice.
They already handicapped themselves when they based it off a FWD platform, leaving driving dynamics and sexier proportions off the table. So what if it’s a computer on wheels? These days that’s not saying much. The only thing that can set the XT5 apart would be a class-leading interior.
As long as Cadillac understands what this competes against they haven’t handicapped themselves entirely. The XT5 is already much sexier than the hideous new Lexus RX. All it needs to be is more interesting and better equipped than the Acura MDX for Cadillac to lead in that sub-segment of other value-for-money mid-size luxury crossovers.
“I have a 2012 SRX Performance Edition. It listed for $49,000.”
If you have no qualms about dropping $49K for an SRX, then you shouldn’t have much difficulty with that figure as the XT5’s starting price.
I mean, if you intend to roll with the luxury mid-size SUV crowd, then why would you gripe about ‘premium pricing’ when every other luxury automaker does it? Why is it suddenly wrong when Cadillac does it?
Since you’re aware I’m talking about the segment as far as size instead of price, it would be wrong if Lexus tried it too. Look at how the RX and the SRX is priced compared to the X5.
The RX and SRX are both in the $40-55k range; the X5 is in the $55-70k range. If Lexus and especially Cadillac started charging $50-75k for their midsized crossovers, they WILL lose their competitive advantage.
The second they charge German midsize CUV prices without offering a distinctive driving experience and a more upscale look, that’s when the XT5 and RX go from being good value to terrible value. They’d be charging full price for half the product. Not competitive at all.
I doubt the XT5 going to have a huge price increase but the amount of advance technology with advance engineering put in it, I don’t think $5K max increase is not that bad and will not keep from anyone buying it if it is best in class or does thing exceptionally well in several areas.
Heads-Up Display, by all means!!!! Magnetic Ride Control is a must. Self dimming headlight!!! Heated/Cooled seats!!! Knobs to tune the climate and radio and Information System as sliding a finger does not work. Two rows of seats, no need for 3!!!
Left side of dash, next to door, have a cup holder that allows the A/C to keep drink cool!!! Rolling ball type vibrator in both front seats that are heated and cooled! Love the exterior styling, just need these features inside to make for a class act!!!
I am waiting for the XT5 to replace my GMC Acadia Denali. I would like:
Luxury. Interior needs to be on par or even more luxurious than SUVs from Mercedes, Porsche, BMW, Audi, Lexus.
Would like:
Full range of colors standard
Super cruise
Just test drove a Tesla with their “Autopilot”. That would be great on the XT5
Split folding rear bench which reclines and is heated and cooled. Would like the rear seats as well as front seats super comfortable for long distance touring
Camera that show 360 degree perimeter outside car
Even thought the CUE has received some bad reviews, I enjoy it on my ATS—it just takes time to get used to it
Heads Up Display programmable to select what I want to show
2.0 liter Turbocharged
Blind spot indicator; Cross traffic alert; Lane change warning; Crash warning and auto braking;
Larger choice of leather interior colors
Ability to leave back up camera on when driving forward.
Would like to see a V model. Something to compete with the Porsche Ceyenne class of crossovers.
I would like to see a full out electric version like the Volt and Bolt . I’m to tall to sit inside either vehicle . But the XT5 would work for me .
I heard a PIH version is in the plans based on Voltec .
I agree! A Voltec version of the XT5 will sell well, because many families buy CUVs to carry passengers and cargo, but none are electric or hybrids. Chevy should offer the Voltec CUV Equinox as Cadillac offers a Voltec CUV XT5.
I too require rwd. Won’t buy fwd-they simply don’t drive the same.
My three present GM vehicles (and my previous one) are all FWD. They run very well since none are “sportscars”, but basic people carriers.
No disrespect, but Cadillac is in the business of building superb people carriers in performance, comfort, and design.
Cadillac relapsed on the GM budget-cutting drug, so they developed the XT5 on a ‘basic’ people carrier platform with ‘basic’ driving dynamics and ‘basic’ proportions.
Chevrolet is in the business of basic people movers, Buicks have basic luxury people movers. GMC should have rugged luxury people movers.
But Cadillac? Basic shouldn’t have a place in discussions about a Cadillac anywhere.
Over the door grab handles. Not only getting in and out but make a great place to hang arm when traveling.
Keep in mind here this vehicle is still the old Cadillac. It was so far along that they had to complete it.
This will be like the other product as it will advance the brand and it will do not harm. It will build on the already Popular SRX that has proven to have been very profitable.
I do expect changes to this model as time goes on but it will carry well in this segment.
As for some of the wishes. Some are reasonable and some are just not possible due to many practical reasons.
I’m well aware of that, scott3. That’s why the best Cadillac can do with this one is price it for value against the RX and offer AWD standard. Hopefully when the redesign comes in another 4-5 years, it will find its way to either the Alpha platform, or a flexible, modular replacement.
As I said in another comment, if Cadillac prices this any higher than 35-45k, the sales volume will fall off.
Get real on the price as the Terrain Denali is already in the price range you quote.
This will be a the very least the same price as the SRX or just a little higher. It sill match at least the others in class with similar options.
$35K does not buy much vehicle anymore as that is just the average price of a new car anymore.
As for volume Cadillac anticipates being a lower volume brand and is making the money on pricing.
This is not the old Cadillac that has to sell 100K units to break even anymore.
I put my foot in my mouth as far as the limits Cadillac would go as far as pricing.
I still hold firm that Cadillac can’t charge the premium that German competitors of that size class do. People pick the SRX for the same reasons they pick the RX: The price of an X3 for the size of an X5.
I would principally love to see the luxury basics addressed correctly. V-Sport et.al. would be nice but I think that the initial version should have class leading luxury componentry. A non Bull shit dash and instrument panel. An engine that is not an embarrassment and, likewise, the handling. Lux SUV at its finest. THEN, V-Sport etc. Just get is Standard of the World first. And dont screw up the launch.
How about Cadillac’s weirdest problem, not having auto dimming side mirror on the passenger side.
Why can’t GM (USA) build a Rear Wheel Drive V8 . I don’t care about front wheel drive or AWD.
Escalade
I happen to be a huge fan of front wheel drive. To each his own!
As for platforms GM will have to share them to a point. In the past the real sin was to build it as a Chevy and then try to make a Cadillac out of it. Today it is the reverse where it trickles down and makes not only a better Cadillac but in this case a even better Camaro.
Now while the Camaro and ATS may have similar origins there are many differences and they are far from the same car. Even some here if they did not already know would never see that they are based on the same platform.
With global platforms you will get sharing with every MFG anymore but the true nature of doing it right is how adjustable and flexible it is to make different products.
I’d like to see an overall improvement in quality. I have a newly purchased CTS with 3,000 miles that has been garaged the entire time. I am having really bad problems with the paint peeling. My last Cadillac never had this. So overall, an improvement in quality inside and out …
While most would say the logical choice would be LGW 400 hp twin turbo 3.0L V6; but this is a big mistake given that the new LGX 3.6L V6 scheduled for the CT6 is said to produce 355hp meaning the LGW would give a 45hp advantage so the only real upgrade is the LF4 twin turbo 3.6L V6 for 420-464hp.
I just love the style and distinctive look of the XT5. I’m hoping the inside will be updated, have a minimum 8″ screen with more buttons. I would also like the 360 degree camera and radar sensors offered in the Nissan Murano and their incredible seats as well. I find the SRX trunk space very small, smaller than in a Honda CR-V. I need that space. I also hope they will improve spongy break feel and the heavy ride.
This being a Caddy enthusiasts venue I hope you don’t find my comparison to the Murano out of place. You would have to drive one to understand. But I will wait for the next generation SRX before I make a decision. I was just 18 when I bought my first Cadillac and at 73 it might be the last vehicle a buy.
Some buttons and knobs for the radio, and a variety of interior colors.
1. More comfortable seats.
2. NEEDS to be quieter!
3. Magnetic Ride and a smoother ride.
4. A more performance driven model, V-Sport.
5. Electric rear folding seats like Escalade.
Could you please tell me if Heads-Up Display is going to be offered in the XT5 ! Thanks!!!
No RWD, no V8, no thanks. I wonder how long I’ll have to drive my ’05 SRX V8?
