After distributing an in-depth survey to 20,000 Chinese consumers using OnStar, General Motors’ Chinese telematic subsidiary — Shanghai OnStar — has introduced new service plans to better suit the changing needs of the OnStar users in China. SHanghai OnStar says that over half of the 20,000 surveyed responded, making for a clear consensus on what the public is looking for from the service.
Now, Chinese customers can add the services they want as they see fit to their plans via a new add-on service menu, which includes navigation for monthly, quarterly, half-year and yearly prices, and hands-free calling minutes that be purchased in 50, or 100, minute bundles. Additionally, one flat-rate adds the peace of mind of Stolen Vehicle Location, which disables the ignition when reported stolen.
Shanghai OnStar also announced four revised service plans, starting with the Safety and Security package that provides six essential services including Emergency Service, Vehicle Diagnostics, Security Service, the Data Refresh Mobile App, the Maintenance Tips Mobile App, and the On-Demand Vehicle Diagnostics Report Mobile App.
From there, the packages build upon each other. The Go Everywhere plan adds navigation and traffic services, the Connect Anywhere plan then adds 500 minutes of hands-free calling time, plus Find My Car, and, finally, the All Star Package integrates every available OnStar service.
The plans have gone into effect today, and may be ordered and changed at the push of the blue OnStar button.
