Okay, so we know we don’t normally dabble into the real estate market but, this is a special house. Special to the Corvette faithful at least.
The house of the late, great Zora Arkus-Duntov has recently been listed on the market in Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan. It seems Duntov’s love affair with engineering and obscurities translated to his home choices, because the house is listed as a Spanish-style home and certainly still rings unique. Just like the mid-engine Corvette prototypes he has become so well known for.
The house has a modest back yard with space for, presumably, a garden. There’s even a small rooftop patio. We imagine Duntov had some of his most brilliant ideas taking in the crisp Michigan air on this patio. We could be wrong, but it’s a humbling vision, no?
The home still houses some of the time-period correct styling cues, and could be quite a cool pad for the ultimate Corvette enthusiast. All it’s missing is restored C2 Corvette in the driveway, the Corvette with the most Zora influence in our opinion.

When I was a kid a million years ago, the Duntov home was the last house on my Detroit News paper route. There was always a Corvette or two in the driveway, and each month when I would collect the $5.60 fee for the newspaper, Mrs. Duntov would let me come inside for a couple minutes while she would get the money. It looks exactly like I remember it. Back then, to the right of the winding staircase was a wall full of pictures of Mr. Duntov standing by all kinds of different Corvettes, plaques and awards. Being just a kid, I had no idea who he was and simply thought he was a guy who loved Corvettes. Now, all these years later, knowing who Mr. Duntov was, it makes me feel a little special that I got to know the “Father” of Corvettes. I had that paper route for several years, and I can tell you that he and Mrs. Duntov were a couple of the most genuinely kind people I’ve ever known. Perhaps, some may think they were so kind to me because I was just a kid, but I can tell you that wasn’t the case. I had over a 100 Customers and believe me, they were way nicer than most of the Grosse Pointe “elite.” Seeing their home for sale just now made me think back on happier times, and how good things once we’re back home. I sincerely hope that some day Detroit can recapture some of what it once was.
