Competitive Sales Comparison (USA)

GMC Sierra sales during the third quarter of 2023 kept Big Red’s full-size pickup truck range in fourth place in its competitive set when ranked by sales volume.

The Ford F-Series (see running Ford F-series sales) lineup continued to lead the field with a two percent bump to 191,267 units, followed by the Chevy Silverado (see running Chevy Silverado sales) with a 10 percent dip to 129,302 units, placing second as it has for over a year now. The Ram Pickup maintained third place a 19 percent slide to 89,140 units. The Sierra (see running GMC Sierra sales), the Silverado’s corporate cousin and T1 platform mate, maintained fourth with a 10 percent uptick to 80,226 units. The Toyota Tundra followed in fifth, posting an 80 percent jump to 39,069 units.

The all-electric Rivian R1T moved up several spots to take sixth with a 43 percent uptick to 11,700 units. The all-electric Tesla Cybertruck slipped behind the Rivian to place seventh with 7,500 deliveries. The oldest EV truck here, the Ford F-150 Lightning (see running Ford F-150 Lightning sales), saw sales jump 104 percent to 7,162 units, placing eighth. The Nissan Titan placed ninth with an 18 percent drop to 3,976 units. The new Chevy Silverado EV (see running Silverado EV sales) followed in tenth moving 1,995 units, while its BT1 platform mate, the GMC Sierra EV full-size light duty pickup, joins the list for the first time with 387 deliveries.

From a segment share standpoint, the Sierra earned a 14 percent share, up one percentage point year-over-year. The Sierra was one of only two internal combustion trucks to post an increase in segment share, with the Toyota Tundra being the second. The F-Series maintained a 34 percent segment share, while the Silverado saw its share decrease three percentage points to 23 percent. The Ram Pickup earned a 16 percent share, down four percentage points, and the Tundra held a seven percent share, up three percentage points. The remaining contenders each held a segment share of two percent or less.

Combining GMC Sierra sales with those of the Sierra EV, and then adding Chevy Silverado and Silverado EV sales, gives GM a solid 211,910 combined deliveries for a 37.7 percent segment share, outselling Ford by roughly 13K units. That enables The General to maintain the mantle of America’s top seller of full-size pickups in America, moving nearly two out of every five full-size trucks during the quarter.

The GM Authority Take

The GMC Sierra continued its positive trajectory during the third quarter, increasing sales nearly ten percent for the quarter and six percent year-to-date. Interestingly, sales of the Chevy Silverado headed in the opposite direction during the same timeframe. Additionally, the Sierra was one of only two trucks with an internal combustion engine to post an uptick in segment share,

Though GM truck sales were down overall, combining all of its models, both ICE-based and battery-powered, maintained The General’s title as the best-seller of full-size pickup trucks in the U.S., once again outpacing crosstown rival Ford.

Battery electric trucks, such as the new GMC Sierra EV, are slowly beginning to make their mark. Together, they accounted for five percent of overall truck sales.

Big Red’s expanded truck lineup of refreshed models and off-road-focused offerings positions the Professional Grade brand quite well, both now and into the future. Full-size trucks, from ICE-powered to BEVs, are the lifeblood of General Motors, with Chevy and GMC models combining to account for 33 percent, or one third, of all GM sales in the U.S. during Q3 2024.

About GMC Sierra 1500

For 2024, the GMC Sierra 2.7L engine is called TurboMax. That engine now gets the Hydra-Matic 8L80 M5U revised eight-speed automatic transmission.

Also, the 2024 Sierra AT4X finally offers the LZ0 Duramax diesel engine to provide more low-end torque while off-roading, joining the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine for available powerplants. That 6.2 liter gets a throatier exhaust note thanks to a new Active Exhaust system. Additionally, the 2024 Sierra AT4X is available with new beadlock-capable wheels along with new black and red beadlock wheel decorative rings. Finally, the 2024 Sierra 1500 offers a new drop-in bedliner and a new bed Utility Wall Package.

The 2025 GMC Sierra 1500 arrives with a variety of small updates and changes such as a revised exterior color list for the seventh model year of the full-size, half-ton pickup truck’s fourth generation. The model was last updated for the 2022 (technically the 2022.5 or 2022 interim) model year, when it received a thorough refresh.

About GMC Sierra HD

In October 2022, GM unveiled the refreshed 2024 GMC Sierra HD, debuting fresh exterior styling, a new interior, a revised trim level lineup, new tech like standard wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, safety features like Adaptive Cruise Control, and powertrain updates. The refresh was highlighted by the arrival of the premium 2024 GMC Sierra HD Denali Ultimate, the pinnacle of heavy duty trucks, offering massaging seats for the first time on the Sierra HD. Consequently, a new Denali Reserve Package replaced the Denali Ultimate Package offered on the 2023 model. Also, the 2024 Sierra HD offered two new 22-inch wheel options.

Last May, GM officially debuted the first-ever 2024 GMC Sierra AT4X and the new 2024 GMC Sierra HD AT4X AEV Edition as Big Red’s most capable heavy-duty off-roaders.

The 2025 GMC Sierra HD offers Front Park Assist as an option on the Pro and SLE trims, while Adaptive Cruise Control will be available on more trim levels, but the 2025 model won’t offer certain wheel choices or this paint color. Here are all the 2025 Sierra HD paint colors, the interior colorways, and available wheels, plus towing capacities.

About GMC Sierra EV

More than a year ago, GM debuted the first-ever 2024 GMC Sierra EV Denali. The only variant built for the 2024 model year was the Sierra EV Denali Edition 1.

The cabin is dominated by a 16.8-inch diagonal infotainment screen, the largest screen ever fitted to a production GMC Sierra model. The new EV pickup also includes trailering-capable GM Super Cruise semi-autonomous driver assistance technology, as well as Regen On Demand Braking, One-Pedal Driving, and 4-Wheel Steer with CrabWalk. The onboard Air Ride Adaptive Suspension can raise or lower the truck by roughly 2 inches.

Additionally, interior appointment includes high-end materials like open-pore wood, aluminum, and etched stainless steel. Up top is a panoramic fixed glass roof.

The Sierra EV incorporates the GMC MultiPro Tailgate and Midgate, an eTrunk, and a max towing capacity of up to 9,500 pounds.

The truck offers Power Station Pro, which provides bidirectional charging and upwards of 10.2 kW of power. The batteries can be charged back via 800-volt DC Public Fast Charging capabilities up to 350 kW, providing 100 miles of range in just 10 minutes.

Similar to the GMC Hummer EV Pickup and SUV, the new 2024 Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 is based on the GM BT1 platform, with GM battery tech and GM drive motor tech for motivation. Output is applied through the onboard 4WD system, peaking at 754 horsepower and 785 pound-feet of torque in Max Power mode, enabling the truck to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in less than 4.5 seconds. The maximum range per charge is estimated at 440 miles.

The 2024 Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 is available in only one color, that being Thunderstorm Gray.

This past April, the 2024 Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 received a lower price and higher range estimate.

The 2025 GMC Sierra EV introduces the “regular” Denali, entry-level Elevation, and off-road AT4 trim levels, here shown in Onyx Black. Along with those n
