Holden launched a sudden social media blitz overnight teasing what is calls “our next big top of the range Colorado.” The announcement was made on the automaker’s Facebook profile, but quickly told fans to tune in to the official Holden twitter page, where several teaser photos were uploaded.
From what we can see, there’s quite a bit of attention to detail going on here. Holden has highlighted the chrome features, and small black details as some of the finer things to have gone into this new Colorado. One teaser image briefly showcases a set of new Arsenal Gray Metallic wheels, which will grace the truck once it is revealed to the fullest extent. These details also pop very well with the orange paint hue the truck is wearing.
No mechanical information was parsed out in the teasers, but Holden did highlight the Colorado’s 3.5 ton towing capacity. It remains to be seen if the technical bits will be improved, or if this new range-topping Colorado will only see improvements in the design department.
Holden says a full reveal will take place at 11:30am. That’s local time for our friend’s down under, meaning those of us residing in the Eastern Standard zone will be sound asleep. Stay tuned tomorrow for the truck’s unveiling.

I’m certainly not complaining, but how are full-size and mid-size pick-ups receiving such special treatment as it pertains to offerings in the way of appearance packages and customization compared to more aesthetic-oriented brands/segments?
For example, unless buying a Buick Regal GS, there is very little customization offered for the sporty, pseudo-luxury sedan. The ATS doesn’t even have a V Sport package available to date. Camaros have multiple trim levels, but no appearance packages that allow’s the consumer to add some personal touch. These optional appearance packages tie the consumers to their vehicle in an emotional, prideful way. They feel more connected to their vehicle as it becomes an extension of their identity. I hope GM gets all of its brands and line-ups fully on board w/ riding this trend, as it’s a great way to increase profit margins while also getting ordinary consumers to notice the brands themselves.

My point is, appearance packages would do well to attract the younger buyers that GM wants to see at Buick/Cadillac dealerships. Buick/Cadillac design languages are great and starting to take root. Adding appearance packages (as Cadillac at least has done for the CTS w/ the midnight appearance package) is a great catalyst for that process.
Don’t worry mate. This will just be yet another parts bin “special” package. The reason Holden are doing this is to try and get buyers from the Commodore based utes into the Colorado. The engine will undoubtedly be the horrible, gutless 2.8 litre turbo diesel which graces the majority of these monstrosities on Aussie roads. And they aren’t terribly good value for money either, as you can get a 3 litre Isuzu D-Max in upper-mid range trim level for about $5k less than the starting price on an equivalent Colorado version, which is still about the same as a base VW Amarok which has pretty much all the same tech stuff inside, just with steel wheels but a six speed manual sitting behind a very torquey single or twin turbo 2 litre diesel or a 3 litre turbo diesel Toyota Hilux base model dual cab for about $1k more than the base Amarok (look them up – they’re the best dual cab on the Australian market that money can buy)
