1,100 2015 Cadillac Escalades Recalled Over Airbag Flaw

General Motors has issued its 79th recall so far this year for certain 2015 Cadillac Escalade models over an issue with the vehicle’s airbags.

The problem: GM says certain Escalades built in September aren’t up to federal standards. An incorrect spacer fabric was used to cover the passenger side instrument panel, which may prevent the airbag from deploying.

Vehicles affected: All 2015 Cadillac Escalades built in September are affected by the recall.

Number of vehicles being recalled: About 1,100 Escalades are affected. However GM estimates only 200 made it into customer hands.

The fix: GM did not describe the fix or how long the repair process would take. A stop-delivery order was issued on September 30 after employees discovered the issue at GM’s Arlington, Texas assembly plant. So far, around 53 percent of the affected vehicles have been repaired.

Contacts: Owners of recalled vehicles may use GM’s recall site to see which campaigns they are affected by. They may also contact Cadillac customer service at 800-458-8006 for more information.
