The General Motors assembly plant in Arlington, Texas is celebrating 60 fruitful years of operations, building 9,727,299 vehicles in the process. Originally, the plant made all vehicles types, but in 1997 the facility switched to strictly making sport utility vehicles. Today, Arlington is the sole producer of the 2015 Cadillac Escalade, 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, and 2015 GMC Yukon family.
Over the years, the Arlington assembly plant grew from 1.25 million square-feet to 4.375 million square-feet. Employment has also gone to expand from 1,850 workers to 4,591, along with adding 1,010 robots in the process.

My favorite plant has to be Fairfax where my Grand Prix’s and Malibu were built. I’ve taken tours at the Fairfax, Orion, Lordstown and Flint plants. It is amazing how much goes into building one vehicle. I am glad Arlington is able to celebrate it’s 60th anniversary. I just wish GM had kept the Moraine plant. .
I was told that plant was originally built to manufacture aircraft as well as automobiles.
