GM Foundation Donates Another $400,000 To Karmanos Cancer Institute

The General Motors Foundation is donating $400,000 to the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute to support cancer research. Over the past 17 years General Motors and the GM Foundation have donated $7.3 million to KCI.

“Our donation to Karmanos Cancer Institute is part of the GM Foundation’s larger commitment to support the research and prevention of the major illnesses of heart disease, cancer and diabetes,” said GM Foundation President Vivian Pickard. Additionally, Cadillac will be the sponsor host of the 32nd Annual Dinner on April 26, 2014.

GM President Dan Ammann and his wife Pernilla will be the chairpersons of the dinner. This marks the third consecutive year that a member of General Motors leadership has organized the dinner.

Proceeds from the dinner will go to renovations for the institute where patients receive chemotherapy treatments. The renovations will create a more comforting and soothing environment for those fighting the disease. Last week, General Motors announced that it will donate up to $1 million to the American Cancer Society for social media users to spread awareness by changing their profile photos to purple.

  1. More waste of money!

    1. Here’s something I’ve been meaning to ask you, mr. ritter.

Both GT6 and Forza 5 have GM licensed vehicles in them. Is it a waste of time, energy, and money to even bother with licensing the cars if the players never buy from, or even own, a GM product?

As for poo-pooing cancer research, well, how lucky do you think you’ll be in life to not have to rely on that research? Mechanics get exposed to all kinds of potential carcinogens, from brake pads to used oil. Even the flame retardant sprayed on the foam used in seat cushions off-gases over time. Done any welding? How certain are you that you haven’t any heavy metals in you that are higher than acceptable standards?

  3. Making a video game giving GM cars exposure is fine, my problem with giving money to charity is there is no protection against the corruption that comes with that cause!

The money that does find it’s way to help tends to focus on treating the disease on finding a cure! Because we all know the money is not in the cure but in the treatment of the disease!

Go back and look at all the charities in the past, at some point someone took money or benifits they didn’t deserve!

As for cancer I have had plenty of family members die of this disease and too this day they are no closer to a cure then they were 5 10 15 20 years ago!

    1. Actually, the death rate of cancer patients has gone down significantly in the past 10 years. GM knows what they are doing and some people just can’t wrap their minds around it (umm e.g. you)…
