Former Chevrolet WTCC Driver Champion Rob Huff Involved In Alleged Street Racing Crash

The Chevrolet WTCC factory team is no more. Which is a shame, because the team did nothing but steam roll its competitors year in and year out with their Cruze 1.6T race cars, locking in manufacturers’ championships well before the WTCC racing season concluded. One of the drivers in the team was Robert Huff, who was the 2012 drivers’ champion (and now drives a SEAT). To put it lightly, Huff’s an amazing race car driver on the track. And on the street, it appears some illicit racing over in Great Britain has done his Chevrolet Camaro SS in.

It’s believed that Huff is just the victim — and not a participant — in the street racing, despite driving the 426-horsepower Camaro. Allegedly, a BMW and a VW Golf collided with a broken-down Peugeot; the two cars then crossed into Huff’s lane, colliding with Huff’s Camaro.

“I believe the accident occurred when a grey BMW came up behind the Peugeot and slowed down. They were then both hit by a Red Golf. It was a pretty nasty crash,” Huff told Britain’s Cambridge News.

Even though the BMW and VW drivers had to be cut from their cars by emergency responders, all involved seem to be all right. That much can’t be said of their cars, however, which were all written off.
