After 12 consecutive years in the red, GM Europe had a huge shakeup this morning, as Opel/Vauxhall CEO and GM Europe President Karl-Friedrich Stracke suddenly resigned. GM Vice Chairman Steve Girsky, who is currently Chairman of the Opel Supervisory Board, will serve as the interim leader of GM’s European operations as the company searches for a replacement if the board sees it fit.
Despite the stripping of power, Stracke isn’t leaving GM entirely, as the press release claims he will “take on special assignments reporting to GM Chairman and CEO Dan Akerson” and that he is “looking forward to taking on new challenges for GM and Dan Akerson.” Vague, but at this point, we’re going to have to make a bowl of popcorn and watch this movie develop a little longer.

Clearly there is differing opinions on what direction Opel should go, and how to get there…
