General Motors is considering a $240 million expansion of its assembly plant in Arlington, Texas where its current-generation full-sized SUVs are being built. The project would consist of retooling the plant in preparation for the next generation of SUV models, and would create an estimated 110 new jobs.
To help persuade GM to keep building its SUVs in Texas, the Arlington City Council voted 9-0 for a 90 percent tax abatement on the new equipment needed and will be in effect for seven years, saving the company $1 million each year in the process.
