Overview
- What: an all-new GMC Savana full-size van that will represent an all-new, second generation of the Savana nameplate, after the first-gen Savana replaced the GMC Vandura / Rally
- When: though currently unclear, we believe it is possible that the next Savana will launch in the 2021 calendar year as a 2022 model year vehicle, after nearly three decades on the market with relatively few changes
- Why: an all-new Savana will enable GMC to retain its leadership in the full-size van segment while fending off competition from Ford, FCA-Ram, and Nissan
- Where: available in all current markets where the GMC is currently sold, including the United States, Canada, Mexico, and the Middle East
Expectations
Following are our expectations of the future GMC Savana:
- Based on the new GM T1 platform or the GM VSS-T platform/vehicle set, delivering all-new underpinnings and engineering
- Significantly lighter than the first-generation model, by as much 300 pounds (136 kilograms) thanks to weight-shedding efforts of GM’s new architectures
- All-new exterior and interior that are significantly more modernized that the first generation in terms of comfort, convenience, technology, while making the necessary leaps in the driving and ownership experience
- Inclusion of next-generation infotainment system
- Introduction of more GM Active Safety features and technologies
- Introduction of all-new powertrain range
- Mechanically identical to the future Chevrolet Express, but with different exterior styling

The vehicle will feature a front-mounted, longitudinally-positioned engine driving the rear wheels. Four-wheel-drive should be optional.
