The Chevrolet Malibu gets a number of minor changes and updates for the 2018 model year, which represents the third model year of the ninth-generation Malibu.
The 2018 Malibu sees, the following changes, updates and new features:
- Addition of new exterior color — Sandy Ridge Metallic
- Addition of Malibu Redline Edition, a package that includes:
- Nameplate badge in Black with Red outline
- Black front and rear bowties
- 19″ Black-painted aluminum wheels with Red hash marks
- 245/40R19 all-season, blackwall tires
- Blacked-out grille
- Black outside mirror patch
- The Redline package is available only on the LT trim level and requires the Convenience and Technology Package along with one of the following:
- Exterior Colors:
- Iridescent Pearl Tricoat
- Silver Ice Metallic
- Summit White
- Mosaic Black Metallic
- Interior Color:
- Jet Black
- The package is not available with the Sport Package or Sun and Wheels Package
- Exterior Colors:
- Deletion of accessory/LPO-level 19-inch aluminum wheels
- Replacement of the 13-gallon fuel tank on L, LS, and LT trim levels with the 1.5L Turbo LFV engine with the 15.8-gallon tank, the same as on the Malibu Premier, which comes standard with the 2.0L Turbo LTG engine.
- The Malibu Hybrid continues with the 13 gallon tank
- Change in RPO code for Sun and Wheels Package from PCL to WPM
- Addition of two fleet-specific decal packages for Nationwide and another for Allstate

Th 2018 Chevrolet Malibu continues to utilize the regular wheelbase version of GM’s E2 platform shared with the 2018 Buick Regal, 2017 Opel Insignia, and 2018 Holden Commodore.
For the North American market, the 2018 Chevrolet Malibu is assembled by GM U.S.A. at the GM Fairfax plant in Kansas City, Kansas, USA. For the Chinese market, the 2018 Chevy Malibu is assembled at a Shanghai GM plant in China.
