Camaro GT4.R Grabs Pole In First Ever Race Outing

Lawson Aschenbach and Blackdog Speed Shop put the Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R on pole position for the Pirelli World Challenge GTS Race 1 from St. Petersburg.

The PWC season-opener at St. Petersburg was the first-ever competition outing for the new GT4-spec Camaro racer. Aschenbach’s fastest lap around the 1.98-mile St. Pete street circuit in the pratt & Miller built car was a 1:18.855, beating out 16-year old Parker Chase in the No. 19 Performance Motorsports Group Ginetta G55, who set a fastest lap of 1:19.093. Roudning out the top three was Andrew Aquilante in the No. 32 Phoenix Performance Ford Mustang Boss 302 with a lap of 1:19.230.

“Obviously, it is very exciting to get pole in the first race debut weekend,” Aschebach said post-session. “It’s important we have success with this car for everyone involved in the program. Starting this weekend, we knew the car was pretty close to what we needed. It’s pretty surprising to roll out of the trailer and know we have a car that is going to be fast. It’s a testament to everyone at Blackdog Speed Shop, Chevrolet, Pratt & Miller, and everyone involved in this program, to be able to come out and be ready to go.”
