Buick Brand Grows 20.1 Percent Year-Over-Year

The Buick brand is having a stellar first half of 2016. Buick announced through the first half of 2016, sales are up 20.1 percent over this time last year, with a total of 675,964 vehicles sold.

The rapid growth has moved Buick to become the fifth largest vehicle brand in China and has led it to outsell Acura, Lincoln and Infiniti in North America.

“2016 has been a year of optimism and excitement for Buick as we’ve outpaced our top competitors,” said Duncan Aldred, vice president of Buick Sales, Service and Marketing. “As new products continue to arrive to our stores, there’s never been a better time to take a fresh look at Buick’s range of premium SUVs and cars.”

The brand’s growth can be attributed largely to the subcompact Encore, which has sold 36,365 units through the month of June. Though, despite a shortened model year, the Buick Envision crossover is poised for success, too. The crossover concluded its first full month of U.S. sales with 1,436 units sold despite very limited availability. The 2017 Buick Envision will launch this fall and provide a broader range of trims and equipment.

Building on the momentum will be the 2017 Buick LaCrosse, the brand’s self-pronounced technology and design flagship sedan. The 2017 LaCrosse is shipping to dealers as you read this, and will likely continue the success of the nameplate. Since its introduction in 2009, 950,000 customers have chosen LaCrosse.

  1. Great. Now put the money back into the company and send the Avista to production.

  2. Good.
But a.) China sales are split 50-50 w China. And b.) a breakout on North American sales only … How’s that look?
No snark, but just looking for a little more in-depth info. So how’s it break out, when our share of China is 50%, and NA has one substantial, positive seller (Encore)?

Again, not being negative, but I suspect a fair number of us would like to see a breakout. Thanks! 🙂

  3. The split is not a bad thing.

The na market is not expected to grow but China is going to continue to grow.

Most mfg do not have China for growth of any kind.
