Burt Reynolds was there to personally sign away this 1977 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am from Smokey and The Bandit. The timeless Trans Am was presented by 79-year-old Reynolds himself and the McLaughlin Museum during the Barrett-Jackson auto auction in Scottsdale this past Saturday, selling for an astounding $550,000.
The famous Pontiac Trans Am came with a certificate from Universal Studios, which had used the car to travel while promoting the movie. To go along with the certificate includes a Plaque from General Motors, an original movie script, location maps for the film, behind the scenes photos, original press release kit, Pontiac Historic Services documents, while the car’s title states ‘Universal Promo Car.’
The best part of all this for the buyer was probably the delivery, as Burt Reynolds drove the car from the block to the tune of “East Bound and Down.”

Heritage and memories, that’s what it’s all about.
Fantastic, lucky guy who bought it, I’m jealous
Trust me i love this movie to the point I could recite the dialog but this car was nothing more than a premium celebrity car.
I would be just as happy with any other clean 77-78 low mile black gold TA.
But what was more impressive is the prices on the other Black gold models including the much unloved turbo model that went for such a high price.
BJ auctions are misleading on real world prices as often these auctions are rich guys buying to impress their buddies but it also is an indicator the TA will be one of the true collector cars of the 70’s.
The keys will be color, condition and options.
The pre 75 cars are rock stars on price now and do even better with a HO or SD engine.
Still miss my silver 1977 Trans AM. Man I drove the wheels off that car and loved every minute of it!
