General Motors at the Barrett-Jackson auction always seems to bring something tantalizing for the buyers and this year brought out a one-off Corvette Le Mans 50th Anniversary Z06 and a 2011 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible Indy 500 Pace Car that were auctioned off for a combined $435,000. But that’s not all The General brought up to the block. Continue selling.

As per the one-off Corvette Le Mans 50th Anniversary Z06, GM also had another piece of motorsports memorabilia on the Barrett-Jackson auction block with the 2011 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible Indy 500 Pace Car that was unveiled at the auction earlier this week. This particular Camaro is the first model of fifty sure-to-be collector’s items, with the gavel finally slamming at $225,000. Proceeds will go to the David Foster Foundation, which supports families with children in need of live-saving organ transplants.

General Motors always seems to be auctioning off something at the Barrett-Jackson charity auction. Last year we saw a pair of special Corvette’s and the first-ever Cadillac CTS Coupe that went towards aiding earthquake-laden Haiti and the College for Creative Studies, respectively. This year, The General had a commemorative Corvette Z06 celebrating 50 years of Corvette Le Mans racing heritage and went for a lofty $210,000. Continue bidding.

For the seventh time in history, the Chevrolet Camaro will be pacing the Indianapolis 500. Not only is the Camaro a perfect fit for the Indy 500′s centennial year, but 2011 marks the same year Chevy turns 100 as well. This Camaro in particular took several design cues from the 1969 Camaro pace car of yore with a matching paint scheme and orange leather interior. Best part, if you’ve got a suitcase full of money, head over to Scottsdale, AZ where the first of fifty Camaro pace cars will be auctioned off at the Barrett-Jackson this Saturday evening. Continue for the full presser.
It’s no secret that antique cars command top dollar at the notorious Barrett-Jackson auction. Most recently, a 1962 Cadillac convertible adorned in Louis Vuitton upholstery was auctioned off for $40,000 at Barret-Jackson Orange County. Continue reading for a full photo album and details.
GM has recently announced a new limited edition Corvette, the Z06 Carbon, which will slot in between the Z06 and the ZR1. Even more recently, The General informed Corvette fans that the first Z06 Carbon would be auctioned off to the highest bidder at Barret Jackson in Palm Beach, Florida.
The auction for this specific VIN, which is the first of the 500-run limited edition, will be held on April 3rd, the final day of Barret Jackson Palm Beach. The winning bidder will also get the privilege of touring the facility that GM uses to produce the hand-made LS7 and LS9 pushrod V8 engines in the Zo6 and ZR1, respectively. The lucky new owner of the first Z06 Carbon will also be able to watch their car go down the assembly line at the Corvette plant in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
The Zo6 Carbon, which uniquely blends features from the Z06 and the ZR1 (our coverage here), was created to memorialize the 50th Anniversary of the Corvette team’s first race in the 24 hours of LeMans.
The Barret Jackson Auction continues to be a premier choice for Chevrolet’s offering of exclusive new cars. The first ZR1 produced was auctioned in Scottsdale in 2008 for $1,000,000. Last year, the first production Camaro was sold for $350,000. Most recently the last in a line of limited edition Z06s (number 427 of 427) was sold for $200,000 while the first ever production Cadillac CTS Coupe sold for just short of $100,000, with proceeds from both auctions donated to charitable causes.

Barrett-Jackson is known for auctioning off cars and raising bagfulls of money for noble causes. During the past weekend at Scottsdale, none was perhaps more noble than GM’s donation to the American Red Cross (ARC) to raise funds for efforts in Haiti.
GM donated the 427 Limited Edition Z06 Corvette, valued at over $80,000, to ARC. Thanks to a generous buyer, the gavel slammed at the $200,000 mark – enabling the ARC to help the people of Haiti that much more. But the 505 horsepower LS7 supercar was not the only car donated by GM for a good cause.
The other donation came in the form of the first-ever production CTS Coupe, donated to Michigan’s College for Creative Studies (CSS). The model sold for a handsome $95,700, including buyers commission. CCS will get to keep the entire sum minus the market price of the car, which is pegged at roughly $35,000.
Despite GM’s financial woes of last year and all that came along with them, coupled with the fact that The General could currently use every penny to see that taxpayers are reimbursed (and so that the Tea Party may possibly shut up) – it’s still good to see the company’s sense of corporate responsibility has not left the building with several former executives. I’m glad they are keeping on with good causes and hope to see many more in the future.
The Barret Jackson Auction has historically included sales to benefit charity. The 2010 Barrett Jackson Auction in Scottsdale, Arizona, running from January 18th to 24th, is no exception. General Motors has donated a Special Edition 2008 Corvette Z06. The proceeds from the sale will benefit the American Red Cross relief fund for Haiti. It will be up for auction today, as lot #1318.
The car is unique in that it is the only 2008 model Vette available with the Crystal Red Tintcoat. Additionally, it wears unique wheels, “427” branded seats and floor mats, and “427” exterior badges. Moreover, it is signed by Wil Cooksey, Jr., the retired (2006) manager of the only Corvette plant in the world. The vehicle up for auction is the last of the 427 cars to be distributed in North America. 427 is also the engine displacement in cubic inches. In a similar double reference, 78 additional cars, for a total of 505, will be distributed worldwide. 505 is the horsepower rating for the 7-liter Z06 engine. Like in the regular Z06, the engine produces 470 lb-ft of torque, fed through a six speed manual, capable of rocketing the car to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds and good for a top speed of 198mph.
The MSRP is $84,195, some $10K+ over lesser Z06s. Even then, the market value of this limited production model is likely higher than that. Coupled with the fact that people have expressed a willingness to open their pocketbooks to send assistance to Haiti during this crisis across the globe, we can expect this car to net a contribution nearly as great as the $100,000 cash donation General Motors has already made to the Red Cross relief fund.
Online bids for Lot #1318 can be submitted here.
Also of note: late last night, another GM-donated vehicle – the first-ever production CTS Coupe – was auctioned off for a pretty $95,000. All proceeds from the 001 CTS Coupe will go to the highly-renowned College for Creative Studies.
