Buick has been direct on who it’s targeting with the introduction of the 2016 Cascada convertible: the Audi A3 Cabriolet. But, any automaker can claim it’s better than the competition without a followup act.
Buick, however, has produced the details on why convertible lovers may want to shop the tri-sheild over Audi, as it has priced the 2016 Cascada at $33,990. With the base price, the brand has made its value proposition over the Audi crystal clear, even producing the handy infographic you will find below.
Among the many amenities offered in the base 2016 Cascada are:
- Acoustically and thermally insulated electro-hydraulic power roof that lowers in only 17 seconds at speeds up to 31 mph
- Navigation and premium sound system
- Rear vision camera
- Remote start
- Heated front seats
- Heated steering wheel
- Rear park assist
The Cascada Premium model, meanwhile, is priced at $36,990 and adds:
- Forward collision warning
- Lane departure warning
- Front and rear park assist
- Rain-sensing wipers
- Twenty-inch “diamond graphic” wheels
And every 2016 Cascada will receive the 1.6-liter turbocharged LWC I4 engine good for 200 horsepower mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox.

The “Reward Yourself” comparison between the Cascada and A3 is called an infographic.
This how you gain Marker Share…offer a better product (more value) for less money. I hope Mr. de Nesschen is watching.
The thing is that the 1SV entry level only comes in 2 colors as of now, White and Deep Sky Metallic Blue (which is another $395).
To get the other colors you have to get the Premium package…Unless this changes- it’s basically 33,990 for White or 34,485 for Metallic Blue.
then $36,990 for the Premium package and other colors (obviously this includes White or the blue for the premium).
More expensive than a Saturn Sky Red Line or Pontiac Solstice GXP… factoring in inflation, no less.
Sigh. I miss the GM Performance Division.
No doubt.
With 2 more seats, more features, more refinement and an electric roof with the bonus of a trunk too…..I really don’t see why you are even comparing it to the Kappa cars?
Mr. F -C’mon man that nerdy senior citizen mobile that looks like a VW EOS and a Sebring! Your post has to be you kidding!!
So you are trying to say that you would rather have that over the rides GM built on the Kappa platform?
I don’t think the Cascada is necessarily bad, but the SOLTICE & SKYE REDLINE were fine automobiles.
I’ll take a Pontiac Solstice GXP….now it’s your move and don’t even say Cascada kid.
Chris- you are right GM needs that damn Performance Division!
No brainiac, I’m asking why he’s comparing the Cascada to the Kappa twins. Besides a folding roof, they don’t compare to each other. One is a 2 rwd seat sports car the other is a FWD 4 seat convertible.
Remember cranial size is something you were born with, its not your fault.
Ha I know what you’re saying Mr. F but you know a few of us on this message board always crave the performance cars from the General.
I have no problem really with the Cascada but just give me some of that good ole HP and I’ll be in heaven
Red Line should be the name of Buick’s performance division.
It is a little piece of GM history and sounds very unBuick.
I would absolutely consider owning the Cascada, probably the Premium version. Wish Buick had chosen a different name, though. Invicta would have been cool. The lack of choice in colors is a problem, but perhaps more choices will be available after introduction.
I’ll definitely check it out. But the A3 looks pretty appealing. I wish Cadillac would try to take down the BMW 4 series convertible. Somewhere between the Cascada and the Camaro there should be a gentleman’s convertible from GM. My 2 cents.
Though if it were between the Camaro and Casada, it would be sub Cadillac no? There was an on-again off-again rumor of an ATS convertible to go along with the coupe, though I imagine that its off-again until the ATS is re-designed and becomes the CT#, I would also like to see Cadillac offer a smaller 2 seat roadster to go against the Z4/SLK/TT.
A 2 seat roadster for Cadillac would be good, but GM does not look like they will making anything like that in the near future.
Looks like it will be a nice car but I think the color choices thing and pricing could be better.
