Chevrolet Performance Examines Guy Fieri’s 502 HP 1968 Camaro Convertible: Video

Guy Fieri, host of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives on The Food Network, has a pretty sweet job. He cruises around the country in a 1968 Camaro convertible, making stops at some of the best “greasy spoons” in the U.S.

To most people, Guy is the star of the show. However, as you’ll find out in the video below, his ’68 definitely needs to be bumped up to co-host. Not only does it help Guy showcase his brown-beard/blonde frosted-tip hair combination, it’s also a pretty killer Camaro in its own right.

The DDD host had a plan to rebuild the Camaro’s 392, but decided to shove a ZZ502 crate engine under the hood instead. (Fast fact: it’s Chevrolet’s most popular big-block engine for the street and the strip).

With 505hp and 567lb-ft of torque the $11,000 crate motor is plenty potent and we’re bound to agree with Guy when says the ’68 has “has never been better”.

Guy’s also a died-in-the-wool Chevrolet fan who seems damn proud of the fact he gets to burble around your TV in a vintage American Convertible. Find out more about the real star of DDD below.

A far-too-tall Ontarian who likes to focus on the business end of the auto industry, in part because he's too tall to safely swap cogs in a Corvette Stingray.

  1. My brother droved a 1967 Rally Sport Camaro with a 327 V8, and it had the same headlight covers that are vacuum powered, but they sometimes get stuck and won’t open. They failed one rainy night, when my brother needed the headlights the most. Maybe that is why they were eliminated by the 1969 model year.

  2. Yes, it’s an old website posting, but for the sake of posterity…

    1. “…agree with Guy when says the ’68 has “has never been better”.” It should read “…agree with Guy when he says…”

    2. “Guy’s also a died-in-the-wool Chevrolet fan who…” It’s “DYED” unless you’re referring to someone whose life has ended…clearly not the case here.

The Internet Grammar Police are coming for you. Great video, though.
