Cadillac Chief Johan de Nysschen: V-Series Is Worst Nightmare Of ‘German Fanboys’

Johan de Nysschen has been tasked with doing a lot for Cadillac. He’s overseeing the allocation of $12 billion to transform the luxury marque to new heights. He’s launching some of the best cars Cadillac has ever made. Most importantly, he’s redefining what it means to drive a Cadillac.

We love the enthusiasm behind the brand that has come with de Nysschen, but talk about dedication. The Cadillac President recently sent out a Facebook update personally informing BMW M, Mercedes AMG and Audi RS fans to get ready for the return of the ultimate in American performance. The update reads as follows:

Johan de Nysschen Update On Cadillac V Series

Fighting words? Definitely. Having pride in your work is one thing, but de Nysschen is taking it to a whole new level here. And we like the spunk.

It also makes us eager to get behind the wheel of the 2016 Cadillac CTS-V and 2016 ATS-V, both arriving with on-paper specs to blow past the competition.

This should make for good discussion. Tell us, is this an unwarranted rant to troll skeptics? Or do you like what de Nysschen has to say?

  1. I love the fact he’s speaking his mind, as long as he backs it up and to date he has. With gettin GM to invest to make it a premium brand rather then a brand with rebadged cars.

  4. WOW . I guess he got his point across . Lets hope that there is something to back up his remarks . He has 12 billion in the bank to play with , so you would think something good would have to come out of it . I believe most people do want to see him succeed , but some good things are going to have to happen in a relatively short period of time . 2020 isnt that far off when you consider the 16’s will be out this fall . Also sounds like he is tired of hearing all the negative press being thrown his way . There are already negative press on the CT6 and no one out there has even driven one yet . So, Johan you have put the germans on notice , the ball is in your court .

  6. Like the enthusiasm. Now, Caddy needs to do the same thing with crossovers, please.

Meanwhile, the ATS and CTS ranges make do without standard features like an auto-dimming rear view mirror on the passenger side.

  8. American “Muscle Car”??? Is he launching the revived Chevrolet Chevelle? Are these words targeted at the Hellcat owners? I like the enthusiasm but all of this race car stuff comes across as very un-Cadillac. I suppose this is all he has to work with right now but I’m not feeling it. The Buick Avenir is more of what I view as a Cadillac. It’s in the same vein as cars like the Elmira, Ciel and Sixteen. Those are proper Cadillac automobiles.

    1. He should direct his words in house. Buick is Cadillac’s worst nightmare. With cars like the Avenir, it makes me wonder if Elmiraj, Ciel etc are destined for Buick. Buick’s already knocking down Chevrolet pretty hard in the car-cuv segment with their sporty yet classy designs like the LaCrosse,Enclave, Encore and Regal. That’s what people want. Chevrolet simply cannot compete with Buick. And high end luxury buyers want exactly what Buick is teasing on the high end ala Avenir. And watching GMC slowly take over Chevrolet trucks and suv’s, I think Cadillac’s and Chevrolet’s days are numbered. Cadillac will fall first though. What happens when Buick launches their new sports car? It will not only compete against Chevrolet’s cars but also these sport Cadillac’s.

      1. I like the Impala over the Lacrosse. And Chevrolet has the SS, very jealous.. Can’t buy the SS in Canada.

        1. Impala is a beauty on the outside. Interior isn’t that great though. Better than the one it replaced but that’s not saying much. The layout, design and materials are sorely lacking IMO. It lacks AWD also. So while I probably prefer the Impala on the outside (it’s close), it’s everything else it lacks that would push me into a Lacrosse. Not much difference in price. Might as well get something a bit nicer and more versatile.

Not sure about this Cadillac stuff. Not a fan of the current styling but wish them luck.

      3. ??? You do know thos are all the same company right ???

Buick is aiming to fill the cadillac role of 2010. Cadillac is attempting to be the extreme high end. Chevrolet will maintain on the low end of the spectrum.

Chevy will overlap buick, and thats OK with GM because they make more money on the buick version (like GMC overlaps with Chevy trucks). Buicks not “knocking down” chevrolet, they are “Upselling to more expensive options”.

Cadillac and Buick will also overlap, but Cadillac will remain the higher tier alternative.

GM would love for Buick to compete with the acuras and lincolns of the world and propel cadillac to the BMWs and Mercedes.

Buick might beat cadillac in the “budget luxury” category (as they should) as well as the big boat category, which cadillac will stay out of unless it can get the driving dynamics to couple with it.

Cadillac has a huge advantage. While Mercedes and audi are reaching down market, and dilluting their brands to grab more sales- GM doesn’t have to. Buick can pull those down-market buyers while cadillac preserves the margins and premium luxury marque. This means Buick should become higher-volume than Cadillac, but that doesn’t mean its a bad thing…

      4. Buick is a branch on GMC also, classic example of how spread they really are. After driving many cars on road and track none has yet to beat the overall balance and pure fun of the ultimate driving machine.

        Reply
      5. Buick has no performance cars and has none in the works. Nothing it has is even remotely close to competing with the Camaro, Corvette, ATS, or CTS in terms of performance. The CT6 craps on every Buick in terms of luxury. The Escalade is still the leader in the luxury truck market.

        Worst troll comment ever?

    2. Lou I guess you have never been to the track and seen the ATSV or the CTSV run? These are truly amazing cars and mostly stock. They originally came of the assembly like that all the others came off of.

The Fact is we can have Buick and Cadillac both but what you and many other fail to understand the level of quality, luxury and performance will grow greater between the two.

Now that is not to say the Buick will not be a good car but I think you will finally see in the 2020 Cadillac whey they are saying the CT6 is not the flagship. You have product coming you never imagined GM ever doing.

Also do not get too crazy in some of the show cars as they are just what they are Show Cars. Cars like the Sixteen would never make production anywhere near like their show cars versions.

      1. Scott, are you a Cubs fan?

You’ve turned ‘there’s always next year’ into ‘just wait until 2020’.

Not many managers are given six years and $12 billion to turn things around. Maybe GM has the billy goat curse.

        1. Dear Troll-

The fact is they have a damn good car now and admit they need to do better and have given the money and time to accomplish this.

What is to not understand here? That kind of investment will only make a already good product even better.

Even a mouth breather like you can understand that unless you are one of the pro trolls we have had here since we have not seen your name before.

Long time members call out the new names popping up here as we have been invaded by pro trolls. This is a sign others are getting worried as when GM had no direction we never saw them as there was no need to bash.

          1. Every site has trolls sadly especially car sites. , And I guess I’m different then most on here, i like many different car brands, like german, Japanese some american brands, And i like the regal turbo/gs, and for Cadillac I quite like the ATS, i just hope they change the instrument cluster. As for his comments, we need more competition it keeps everyone on there toes.

            1. There is no issue with difference of informed opinion. That should be encouraged.

But so many here are coming in of late with fake names and just basically trying to tie things up with opinions that are baseless and have no spark or reality about them.

Then they accuse the regular posters of just what they are doing.

There are blessings to social media but on the other hand there is a dirty underside to it too. Expspecally when it goes uncontrolled as it is on this web site.

The ATS and CTS will be replaced in the neat future. They may still be on the Alpha or modified Alpha but they will both be redone to fix many of the nagging small issues. The head man stated as such not long ago. I expect we will have what we have for a few more years. Part of the investment money is for this project.

              1. While Scott has some very informed opinions, and sometimes shows glimpses of expert knowledge, he is also always the first to attack people personally, usually with name calling, even if it is just for a differing opinion. “Troll”, “mouth breather”, questioning someone’s sexual orientation, it’s all there, just for failing to pray at the altar of GM.

Now he starts whining because for once he is the recipient of some colorful language. He can dish it, just not take it. He needs to learn that nobody is a troll simply because they disagree with him.

Not sure what the fun is for you but it is what it is. These guys or I may say person is a little more involved and is just posting lies for what ever reason.

They have already taken over other story thread with rating numbers you never could attain even with your bogus posts.

No whine here just calling them out.

I will give your credit as you at least stand by your post no matter how odd or wrong they may be at time. At least you go about honest and do not post under bogus names that we never have seen before or after.

                  These too shall pass.

By the way while you are a little inaccurate about what I dish out as I generally give as well as I get. I do want to say Thanks for the compliment.

  9. Cadillac needs a new styling them…the same ol wedged body style is just old and tired….the same style Caddy had for years….I’ve looked at the CT6 and its styling looks stale…. because it looks like a 12 year old design.

    1. Thank God no one asks you to design things to make a living.

Brand image consistency is important. And you truly do not have an eye for design if you can’t differentiate between a CT6 and a 15-ywar old Cadillac.

I’m a fan of Cadillac is hope that with the $ 12 billion allocated by the GM for the relaunch of the brand, he is able to recover the internal market in the US., That was stolen over the years with various German and Japanese.
I live in Italy I personally believe that as a first step we need to take the Diesel models and manual transmission, dealerships entirely dedicated to the brand and more advertising in Europe.
Finally Cadillac brand will become a totally dependent on GM, new models for the rest of the year is not nothing to envy to the various BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Audi.

  11. I feel BMW has had the same styling themes forever. I for one love Cadillacs styling. Reading about the new v series I can’t wait to see what auto press and eventual owners have to say. From what I read this cts v is an amazing automobile. The new Cadillacs are tremendously competitive cars. Did we forget? Look at Audi. Denysschen transformed the company. Gm is not stupid. They know what they are ding. They have a very talented group of designers. Even if the pot stirrers are proven wrong they will continue to delight in stirring the pot. I will then continue to read about the industry and the cars I love and continue to ignore their wasted energy. The first ignorant statement I read in thes posts causes me to move on to an intelligent post.
