‘Theme Song’ Starring The 2015 Chevrolet Colorado: Ad Break

Remember the feeling when you’ve just bought something new, whether it be shoes, a new outfit, or sunglasses? You’re somewhat elated, a bit more confident, and perhaps in a better mood than you otherwise would have been. That feeling is multiplied by ten when you buy a new car, like the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado, for example.

Chevy’s latest ad for its all-new mid-size pickup truck is all about how a car can make you feel. Instead of pulling up to your dreary office job in a boring, grey economy car, why not drive something that will make you feel good about yourself, and give you that extra boost to get you through the day with your head held high?

For the protagonist in this ad, it’s his new Colorado that has given him the confidence to walk around as if his life has its very own soundtrack. Watch it below and let us know what you think of the spot spot in the comments.

  2. This ad is nice, but it doesn’t really impress me that much. And the message doesn’t come across very clearly.

    I’d rather see an ad where the Colorado is all up in the canyons, mountains, and rough terrain… having fun. That’s much more desirable, at least to me.

  3. Not sure what age group their targeting. If they were going to go with an older song I would of done, The Who (who are you). As in, “Are you the lame guy with the Honda or the cool guy with a truck?” I would’ve loved this truck when I was 16 to 23. I need a half ton now tho, but the wife would probably like it.

  4. The ad sucked. Just mentioning it was the truck of the year. No details on the truck. They won’t sell it on image alone.. wow… how lame. If image is all they have then I guess I might have to take it off the short list.

    1. You may have hit on a problem with this commercial. While I love the concept (are you a Carpenters type of person or an AC/DC type of person), while I’m pretty sure they are two different people, they do look very similar. So the impression changes to “you have the sedan part of yourself and the truck part of yourself”. Probably should have used a shorter actor for the guy who walks in.

  6. Owned a 1991 S-10 that lasted 11 years with me, and about five more with other owners. Had it not been for the awful factory paint and the resulting rust it might still be going. Ol’ Rusty had a solid engine and drive train, and got great mileage; better than 30 mpg hiway regularly. I now own a 2002 Honda Civic (as shown in the commercial) and an ’02 Ranger. Both have high miles and are still solid performers. Chevy ad execs–start promoting the quality, economy and longevity of your products and leave the image & identity crap out of your arguments. I’m looking for replacement vehicles sometime in the next ten years–have a good product and a better ad and I’ll consider buying something from you, maybe.

  10. With a bumper that low, the Z71 package is really just an oxymoron. The Tacoma in black looks just as nice with a much more responsive gas pedal and the TRD badge actually stands for something. The Tacoma maintains a low step in with gobs of clearance. The approach angle is 35 beating out the Raptor. GM Colorado Z71 is at a measly 17 making an off road package like the Z71 limited to blacktop. The Tacoma was too rough a ride until I tried the model with the TRD suspension and Bilstein shocks, this made it the preferred choice for me. Bought two of them. GM saves gas with a lazy gas pedal, whereas the Tacoma is very fun and responsive to drive. The HP in the GM has to rev too high at 6800RPM and is not reachable in most cases or practical in a truck. GM has two models, you would think they would give at least one truck a good approach angle so that “All Terrain” or “Z71” actually meant something. And sacrifice some fuel and change your shift points so we don’t have to go so deep into the gas to make it move so that the truck does not lack driveability, make it fun.

  11. Very good short ad.

    This was a very short spot and it sells altitude. It is selling cool and kick ass attitude.

    Image is made up in part in attitude and what people perceive or think. This is a foundation ad where they set the tone. We will soon see others that will go into more detail on the truck.

    This was a lot like the GN ad in 1985 that had Bad to the Bone for the song.

    Back in Black is a timeless song that crosses many generations. It is also one of the more popular songs of all times too.

  14. No facts, no data, no practical info of any kind. This kind of brainless advert leaves me completely unimpressed. It’s bad enough to see 90% of trucks in the real world driving around with an empty bed and not a speck of mud on the fenders. Unfortunately, GM seems to think that urban 30somethings who have no industrial trade nor outdoor hobbies of any kind is their target audience. It isn’t. Get on the ball, GM. People want to see how the truck performs for their active work and busy lifestyles, not how some model in a suit can navigate downtown traffic almost as good as any minicompact — but certainly no better.

  15. Horrible fucking commercial. Why is the majority of the commercial w watching people walk in and out of work while street performers play the Carpenters and then ACDC? Two horrible bands that don’t make me wanna buy a truck. Maybe Chevy should continually play Back in Black for every commercial to remind us that GM is not broke anymore.

  16. Can’t believe no one commented sooner on the truck guy leaving work early. That’s one of my favorite parts of the commercial! Not only is the average, gray-suited, Carpenter-loving guy going IN to work but the good-looking, casually-dressed-because-he-can, AC/DC guy is LEAVING work. It plays into his “I have the day off” or “I’m the boss and already going home for the day”. LOVE this commercial

  17. I find it rather amusing they would put a timeless classic with the Honda and another associated with an era of drugs and destructive behavior with the GM product. Makes me think l would rather have a classic.

  19. It’s horrible, makes me cringe everytime it comes on. I keep waiting for the guy to say in a Keanu Reaves voice, “hey brah, don’t you wish you were cool enough to drive a Chevy?”

    Totally 100% lame. I see they made a follow up to it as well. I guess I’m not cool enough to get it.

  20. Hate the ad. Its Very unclear what the point is, then when you think about it, ok so if I leave work and don’t shave I can have a manly (not very) little truck instead of a gray sedan with depressing music? If you have,to look the commercial up online to find out what it means it’s a flop. If you look it up and still don’t get it it’s a major failure.

  26. I don’t think having its audience confused about the actor (actors?), and the message itself, is the hallmark of a successful ad campaign. That being said, the agency did its job (much like the GoDaddy controversy), since so many people out there (I am hearing/seeing lots of buzz around the net) are talking about it.

  29. Maybe chevy should compare a 2003 rusted cobalt to the 2003 civic and let the viewers pick which one is cool. Or even a rusted out 2003 s10. They are comparing a 10 year plus $15000 economy car at the time that is worth 2000 today to a $35000 truck.

  30. I kind of identify with the working stiff rather than the unshaved guy (does he have a job?) getting into a glitzy new truck and taking off somewhere. I didn’t hear any significant difference in the music- guess I’m too old. Probably the same reason I don’t appreciate all the ads with cars tearing dangerously around parking lots.

  31. My household talks about this commercial whenever it comes on and we all think it’s ridiculous. Cool guy drives a gas guzzling offroad/towing vehicle in an urban setting, whereas a more sensible Honda civic is deemed uncool.

    Props should go to the Civic driver for driving an efficient car on paved roads. It’s the right car for the right environment.
