2016 Cadillac ATS-V Will Debut At The Los Angeles Auto Show, But Not In Coupe Form

Not long ago we got word that the impending 2016 Cadillac ATS-V would make its debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November, while its mid-size sibling the CTS-V would debut at the 2014 North American International Auto Show in January. Now the LA Times has also come out to say the ATS-V will be at LA, but only in sedan form.

Cadillac’s ATS-V will do battle with the BMW M3, the current leader of the compact performance car segment, and others such as the C63 AMG and Audi RS4. And while the 2016 ATS-V will initially be shown in sedan form only, with the two-door ATS-V coupe variant will be shown off some time in 2015. All three new ‘V’ cars, the CTS-V and ATS-V coupe and sedan will go on sale sometime next year.

Many believe the 3.6-liter twin-turbocharged LF3V6 lifted from the Cadillac CTS Vsport will be under the hood of the ATS-V, which should give it at least 420 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque. Though we expect that the LF3 has been worked over a bit and we will see higher numbers. On that end, the 2016 Cadillac CTS-V is expected to receive a version of the 650 horsepower supercharged LT4 V8 from the 2015 Corvette Z06, though it may be down rated to around 600 horsepower when adapted for use in the Cadillac. We’ll know for sure once auto show season kicks off in less than two month’s time.

  1. Ask me how disappointing a CTS-V with “Only” 600Hp will be? I’m saying it now, as I’ve responded to every article I’ve read that has been saying the same thing about conservative power ratings of the upcoming V monster… Look at the history of the V!!!:

    – First Gen had 400hp, which was right in line with the LS6 C5 Z06 and later the LS6 C6.

    – Second Gen brought a 156hp increase from a de-tuned version of the LS9 found in the C6 ZR1, which clearly “EXCEEDED” the output rating of the LS7 found in the C6 Z06.

Now, why the hell would GM go backwards with the V? Through the few generations, the engine of the V has equaled or exceeded that of its same year model Z06 sister. Enter the C7 Z06 with 650/650. Granted, the supercharged LT4 engine is a monumental power increase between generations of the Z06, but why on earth would GM “de-tune” the LT4 engine down to 600hp for the third Gen V? I mean, keep the same power output for 6+ model years, then give it a 46hp bump? Yeah, yeah, yeah… Don’t give me that “Big Picture” crap about the Alpha platform saving a few hundred pounds and the other myriad of upgrades that will help it be competitive with its European competition…blah blah.

Take note, because my sources say that the power output of the CTS-V is going to exceed that of the C7 Z06. With the ZR-1 currently in development, expect the new CTS-V power rating to fall somewhere closer to the 700hp mark. In fact, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if the new V put out more HP than the recently announced Hellcat!

Why would anyone purchase a CTS-V just to get dusted by a Panamera Turbo S, Charger Hellcat, or E63 S? If GM wants to crush the market, they need to dominate in comfort, egonomics, appearance, straightline performance and at the Nürburgring.

    1. I agree! E63 AWD beast! Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge AWD beast! Hellcat charger beast! Anything under 650hp will be a joke especially with the price bump! I already believe they are behind the power curve with not doing AWD, I believe M5 will be AWD soon. They are getting to the levels of to much power for RWD for a DD!

    1. That’s because it is GM CANADA. Sorry, but Canadian management always sucks…Just look at how bad our retail is compared to the Americans. Yup, I am in Canada too and I can admit it…GM Canada is sad; they need to let GM USA control things…We would also get better commercials too!
