This Is The 2014 GMC Sierra

Today, General Motors took the wraps off the all-new 2014 GMC Sierra, alongside the new 2014 Chevy Silverado. Based on GM’s new K2XX architecture, the all-new line of GMC full-size trucks feature new exterior and interior designs, a new line of engines, new cab and bed configurations, along with new technology.

The 2014 Sierra differs from the 2014 Silverado in its exterior design, which now features more GMC-specific design cues than the previous generation. But what really sets the Sierra apart from the Silverado is its interior, which features premium materials such as soft-touch and available aluminum trim.

GMC says that the interior of the new Sierra is the new standard in interior trucks: “Truck owners want a well-crafted cabin, but also one that still feels like a truck,” said Helen Emsley, Sierra interior design director. “They want a purposeful interior, not one that’s flowing like you’d find in a car or crossover.”

Sierra features include:

  • Standard projector headlamps
  • Available LED signature accent lighting and detailed new grilles
  • Upright instrument panel (for optimal visibility and accessibility) with large, legible knobs and buttons
  • All buttons are coated using a rubber-over-mold technology, making them easy to grip with gloves
  • New instrument cluster with six gauges and an available 4.2-inch Driver Information Center containing vehicle status information, a trip computer, and other information, like radio and navigation
  • Available 110-volt outlet, up to 5 USB ports, 4 12-volt outlets, and an SD card slot
  • Available IntelliLink infotainment system with high-definition eight-inch color touchscreen that’s fully reconfigurable, with an intuitive layout and easy-to-read icons; many IntelliLink features can be controlled via voice, allowing the driver to keep eyes on the road and hands on the wheel
  • Dual-density foam designed to stay comfortable over long trips and look great after years of use
  • Leather and cloth will be available, with the latter being a high-wear cloth designed to last longer and resist staining; a spilled drink, for instance, will beat on the fabric and not soak in.
  • Heated seats will be offered with cloth and be standard with leather

  1. Beefy yet understated, looks similar to the `13. And why only the work-truck interior theme ( unlike in the `13)? ( BTW very tastefully crafted).

  2. First impressions (from someone that’s yet to examine the Silverado):

    1. I’m not 100% in love with the headlights, but I’m relieved there’s no fake black plastic ducts under them.
    2. The massive grille looks very nice. Hopefully it opens to the radiator and is not just big for the sake of appearances.
    3. The foglights and their surround trim look like a major step backwards. It appears something is actually missing from the bumper. That’s ugly.
    4. The off center shark fin immediately catches my eye (not in a good way).
    5. I don’t like the chrome caps on the mirrors. They look like something I would pick up on a shelf at Auto Zone.
    6. Chrome trim at the bottom of the windows… I don’t know, but it was obvious at first glance that this truck shares doors with the Silverado. The chrome doesn’t disguise that fact the slightest bit.
    7. The chunky hood, and massive grille, seems to overpower the rest of the truck.
    8. I like some aspects, but I’m far from blown away by the exterior. I need more pictures, and to see it in person.
    9. I’m pleasantly surprised with the inside, thus far. Huge upgrade!
    10. The door speakers seem to really intrude on the legs.
    11. The glove box handle and lock is prominently displayed (roll eyes).
    12. The power ports catch my eye and detract from the overall clean appearance.
    13. Not crazy about the touchscreen. How’s that going to work with my Wells Lamonts???
    14. Overall… see number 8.

  4. i’d say 9.2… how about the 3500 denali line up? more interested in that. i haul trailers with my dually now (2013) and i want to trade in at the end of next year. looking at this, it makes my new truck feel old! seems like a lot of advancements in just a year…

  5. I’m not sure what the point of GMC is. Just badge engineering … I thought GM was trying to get away from that?

  6. Is this the new one? Not a big change, front reminds me of a 2006 F350. I mean, it’s an improvement, I like the fenders and stuff. It looks like a minor-model-change not a major-model-change though. I like the new rear spoiler, but I like the old tailgate style better. Don’t like the 18 piece front bumper- it looks like it’s ready to rattle. I guess the aerodynamic look started by the 1980 F150 is dead with these guys, they went with the Super Duty squared off grill look.

  9. Hopefully GM offers new colors gor the 14’s. A crimson red metallic is needed( just like Toyota, Dodge and Ford). Dodge crimson color is sweet. The current ruby burgandy color is not a good truck color . New model,New colors i would hope

  10. I don’t see a grab handle on the passenger side. That is a requirement for us old folks. Like the LED lights for running lights, but no LED tail lights, bummer. Will prolly trade my 2012 Sierra for one, if I can figure a way to get the old woman in without a grab handle.

On an unrelated subject, will the 14/15 Yukon have a fold flat third row seat, a deal buster for me if they don’t.

    1. @Lamar good question. The K2-based SUVs better have the fold-flats. GM is about 10 years late to the game here 🙁

  11. Typical. Same old styling, no real innovation. Why not lower the trucks so you can reach the bed floor. It wasn’t that long ago you were able to do so. I’d love to make the idiot interior designer ride in the “middle” seat for one full tank of gas. What a joke. Where in the hell are bench seat and vent window options, along with a reasonable bed height. Real, truck features. Real truck buyers don’t want a 4 door Cadillac. Come GM really re-design the truck. Maybe, but I doubt it, they’ll get it right with the Colorado and canyon.

  13. nice design inside and out but one of the most important items on a pick-up, the power, will we see the 4.5 liter diesel in the 1500 series?

  14. When the hell is GM going to grow a pair, step forward with something new, as in old. The front seat is worthless. The bed floor is way too tall. You know some of us want a truck that is a truck. Not some suburban status symbol. Bench seat, wing windows, and plain old hand controls for the ventilation. Don’t need some fancy touch screen controls. A truck please! G.M.

  15. Why don’t you offer cloth, leather or “GM-Tex” as in MB Tex (vinyl) . You put vinyl on the back seat and it continues to look great. The leather always creases and cracks. The last 3 GM trucks I have had, I needed to have the front seat covers replaced under warranty. I used to manage a Mercedes dealership and many models of Mercedes had MB Tex on the seats. It lasted forever and could be scrubbed on a 6 yr old used car back to looking new. VW uses it on many models and everyone thinks it’s leather. I bought new sofas a year ago and got a fake leather and these couches get a workout with kids and dogs and continue to look NEW. No scratches etc. We want our trucks to look nice but they also need to wear. There are too many great, new faux leather materials that wear and continue to look better, longer. Thanks
