2013 Chevrolet Spark EV To Debut At LA Auto Show In Coming Weeks

With all eyes on the 2013 North American International Auto Show, it’s easy to forget about this month’s Los Angeles Auto Show happening November 28-29 for the press. It’s too bad, because there are over 40 debuts happening at the Left Coast auto show this year, and one of them happens to be the Chevrolet Spark EV.

The Spark EV will represent GM’s first all-electric vehicle since the EV1 of the early 1990’s. Currently the vehicle is still undergoing testing, but expect the vehicle to be on sale in the middle of 2013.

  1. How about a Spark EV RS with 0-60 times like the Tesla? Show it at SEMA next year……and start taking orders!!!!!

Not to mention, priced like a Tesla.

The Spark EV isn’t and will never be a sports car.

  2. Well jeeze I hope they unveil more than just the spark at the LA autoshow. GM has 15+ cars/SUVs to debut next year I don’t want to see all of them at the Detroit, Chicago and New York show. Spread it out

  4. Compliance cars don’t excite me.

GM has said that the SparkEV will be produced in extremely small numbers ( Think Honda FitEV, Mini Cooper MiniE and Toyota RAV4EV ).

Battery supplier A123 is in financial turmoil and has claimed bankruptcy – and two suitors are fighting for the scraps, one a major Chinese auto parts supplier, and the
other, America’s largest conventional battery supplier, Johnson Controls.

There’s so much up in the air about this little microcar EV with a true-world range of about 70 miles, I just can’t get very excited about it. Price has been announced at
near $30,000 before tax break. EVs like this represent such a tiny niche yet they
could sell a good number of them if just the batteries cost less and the range was
more near 200 miles since the city dweller with zero parking space who would buy
this car does leave the city now and then and doesn’t want extreme range limitations.
