As General Motors attempts to straighten up its European division so that it can fly right again, the Opel Supervisory Board has appointed 47-year-old Dr. Thomas Sedran to lead the newly created Management Board position of Operations, Business Development, and Corporate Strategies. Sedran will accept his new position on April 1. He will also wear the hat of Vice President of the same function for Opel/Vauxhall.
The German has recently been keeping busy as a front runner for the European automotive practice at the global business consulting firm AlixPartners, out of Munich. Hopefully his guidance can help navigate Opel and Vauxhall out of turbulence.

Too bad his last name wasn’t “Sedan,” instead of Sedran. Of course, if he was a REAL car guy, he’d change it. 🙂
In Germany, and the Adam Opel AG is a German company, Sedan recalls primarily the Battle of Sedan in the 1870/71 German-French war and the numerous streets and places named after Sedan. The next association then is (for me) “Verdun”, the horrible battle in the so-called 1st World War.
So, especially in the light of the GM-PSA alliance, changing the name from Sedran to Sedan would not be a good step.
