General Motors will be turning over a new leaf (pun intended) and will launch an all-electric Chevrolet Spark in the domestic market, hopefully by 2013. The car is expected to be targeted at urban environments, and will be a perfect fit for somebody who needs a basic definition of gas-free four-wheeled transportation.
An all-electric Chevy Beat (the Spark with a different name) one-off was showcased in India earlier this year and featured a range of 81 miles courtesy of a 45 kW battery pack. That should give you an indicator for what to expect.
A gasoline-powered Chevy Spark is expected to will launch in the U.S. market by mid-2012, with a 1.2-liter, 82 horsepower four-cylinder engine. Don’t count on breathtaking performance.

The EV Spark is something that was hinted at a few months ago when there was a short reference to a GM vehicle that would qualify for new HOV lane stickers in California. (For some reason, the Volt didn’t qualify for the highly-coveted perk at the time).
I’ll be very interested to know the expected range, recharge time, etc.
I live in an area where I see the Volt and Leaf on a daily basis, so an EV Spark (as well as the upcoming EV Focus) will be an interesting addition to the mix.

Should this read 45 kilo Watt HOUR battery pack or is the pack 20 kWh as I’ve seen for the India test vehicles? Range is related to kWh, not KW.
electric is good for city……but is not everybody stay in the city…some people dont realize that,,,this wy gm build the volt…..you have a choice what order car company dont have..good job gm..
When is it coming? Will it be sold without the battery? Will the car body sell less than an ICE version? Battery leasing + electricity will show how much money consumers are saving over gasoline filling up every month, not to mention clean air, no CO2 (solar and wind powered).
