While some are still recovering from the fact that the Chevy Orlando MPV won’t be making its way to the good-ol USA, get ready for another surprise. Citing an unnamed source, M Live reports that GM will soon begin production of a new small Buick crossover at its Orion assembly plant.
What, exactly, will this new crossover look like? We’ll find out soon, as Buick is scheduled to unveil its new product plan later this week. From what we’ve heard, the compact CUV could wear the Encore nameplate and spokeswoman Dayna Hart confirmed on Tuesday that the small crossover will look like a baby version of the Buick Enclave.
It’s no secret that Buick is looking to decrease the median age of the Buick buyer (read: attract a younger audience) – and introducing a compact CUV is one way to accomplish that goal. Hopefully the vehicle will bring in more foot traffic to Buick showrooms in the near future.
The new crossover is rumored to be based on the Gamma II platform shared with the all-new Chevrolet Aveo. In fact, GM is already shipping equipment to the Orion assembly plant to being production of the all-new Chevy subcompact. More as it happens!
