Is the Code 130R Concept just a little off?

A couple of days ago I was flipping through an edition of Car and Driver and found a little article about the Code 130R. The picture that accompanied the article was rear 3/4 view that did not make the vehicle look good at all. After brooding over that picture for the last few days, I came to the conclusion that the trunk lid is just too small. With a few hours in photo manipulator, here is what I came up with:

Pic 0: Current Code 130R Concept. Note the tiny trunk.
      Chevy Code 130R Concept

Pic 1: Same wheel base as above but the rear overhang has been extended roughly 2-3 inches. This makes the trunk lid look proportional to the rest of the car, but the rear bumper looks huge when compared to the front.
Chevy Code 130R Altered Concept 1, Extended Tail/trunk

Pic 2: The wheel base is stretched the 2-3 inches needed to match the trunk to the rest of the car but allows the original rear bumper to be retained. Thus keeping the front and rear bumpers proportional. Only problem I see here is that the car looks very long. Although this would make an attractive sedan.
Chevy Code 130R Altered Concept 2, Extended Wheelbase

Pic 3: Before posting the two pics above, I first showed them to my 17 year-old brother. (who falls firmly in the target market) He thought the car would look better as a three-door hatch. Current concept’s wheelbase and bumper. Just an elongated roof is all that is needed here.
Chevy Code 130R Altered Concept 3, Hatch variantNomad?

Pic 4:Just for shits and giggles I put the hatch body over the stretched wheel base and used a tiny rear bumper that comes closer to matching the front’s length. I was quite pleased with the results.

What do you think? Waste of time? Or did I improve upon the 130’s looks?

Wow! I’m a big fan of the 130R in the first place, including its design and the “idea” behind it. But I like your extended wheelbase version and love the hatches. Ironically, I also fall squarely into the “Millenial” demographic that the 130R and 140S are intended for. Great work, @Cactus.

      Thank you @Alex

When I finished the hatches I immediately thought that this would make an excellent platform for a new Nomad

i like the second picture but what i would have done is bring the front of the cabin back a little to give it a longer hood thus fixing all problems. then shove a lfx v6 under the hood??

I moved the cabin rearward 2-3 inches. I don’t think it helped.

Also, length isn’t an issue if you want a v6 in a rwd. If an inline 4 will fit, 2 banks of 3 will fit too. So will 2 banks of 4 😉

My apologies to chaseabryant over at GMI. I was not aware of his work prior to making my nomad variants.

The hatch should become the new sonic and they should put awd to a performance version that would be sweet!
