Hi All, When I cold start my 2023 Silverado 5.3, I’m getting an exhaust leak ticking sound where the manifold meets the exhaust, after the engine warms, it quiets down. This is only on the passenger side. I know that the gasket is smaller on that side. I have gone to different dealerships to have them cold start other trucks on their lots to compare the sound, and it is present, but not as loud. When I took it to my dealership I left it with them and instructed them to put it in the shop, and then start it there so they could replicate the noise. They ignored that, started it in the lot, drove it in the shop, called me and told me they could not replicate the sound. The service manager said his tech heard the sound, but it went away and this was normal for this motor. Is anyone else experiencing this on their 5.3? It’s only on the passenger side and the engine runs fine.
Yep its normal.I have owned a 2021 RST 5.3 (unfortunately totaled) replaced it with a 2022 refresh 5.3, both engines make the ticking sound on cold startup, which quiets down after about 5 min. There is a TSB # 19-NA-218 on the issue for the 22 don’t know if it applies to your 23 maybe bring it up to the dealer
NW-Shadow21, I looked at it, and it’s kind of vague. It recommends that they run it for 5-7 min and if they can’t replicate the sound, to give the vehicle back to the customer. It also lists a ton of parts, and keeps going back to the lifters. My problem doesn’t sound like lifters at all.
I took it to another dealership who found the problem, and fixed it. It was a flange that was out of round… Covered under the bumper to bumper.
Great! Glad to hear you got it taken care of!
