A new video was recently posted to social media capturing a high-speed showdown between a C7-generation Chevy Corvette ZR1 and a Nissan 370Z. The video was captured at a spectator racing event on a local oval track, and while the Nissan puts up an admirable fight, the ZR1’s overwhelming performance proves insurmountable. Unfortunately for the driver in the Z, the import ultimately ends up crashing into the wall – hard.
The video kicks off with the bright orange C7 Corvette ZR1 lining up in the inside lane, while a white Nissan 370Z, wearing modified body panels, takes the outside lane. At the start, the Nissan gets a quick jump, pulling ahead of the ZR1 with impressive acceleration. However, as the two cars enter the first bank, the ZR1 leverages the inside line and surges forward, pulling side by side with the 370Z.
As the two fly onto second bank, the ZR1 begins inching ahead. By the time the pair are mid-corner, the Nissan drifts wide while the ZR1 holds its line. The 370Z ends up understeering, smashing against the outside concrete while the ZR1 cruises to a comfortable victory.
Of course, this fight isn’t all that fair to begin with. The C7 Corvette ZR1 is nothing short of a performance powerhouse, throwing down with the supercharged 6.2L V8 LT5 to pump out 755 horsepower and 715 pound-feet of torque. In fact, prior to the release of the C8-generation ZR1, the C7 ZR1 was the most powerful production Corvette ever made, launching from 0 to 60 mph in less than three seconds and charging on to a top speed over 200 mph.
While the exact modifications on the Nissan 370Z in the video are unknown, a stock Nissan 370Z delivers much more modest performance. The 370Z is powered by the 3.7L V6 VQ37VHR engine producing 332 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque, running from 0 to 60 mph in approximately 4.8 seconds, with a top speed of 155 mph.
Of course, factory performance can be enhanced with the right mods. Nevertheless, on this particular day, Chevy’s orange bomber is the one to grab the checkered flag:
