Some 2025 Buick Enclave Units Will Need A Transmission Torque Converter Replacement

Some units of the 2025 Buick Enclave may be equipped with a transmission with a damaged turbine shaft seal. This problem could manifest as an illuminated “Service Engine Soon” (SES) light and diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P2817. According to a recent GM service bulletin (PIP6005), the damaged turbine shaft seal may stem from the torque converter installation process. To rectify the issue, GM dealers have been instructed to install a new torque converter.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has logged this issue under ID Number 11009052. If the transmission turbine shaft seal is damaged, it could affect the seal within the torque converter, leading to operational issues and triggering the P2817 code.

In order to correct this issue, dealers will first need to remove the transmission and torque converter to access the damaged turbine shaft seal. Both the torque converter and the turbine shaft seal will then need to be replaced. To note, GM has redesigned the seal, with the previous seal using an O-ring design, and the new seal using a Z-cut square Teflon design.

Any owners experiencing these symptoms are urged to refer to bulletin PIP6005 when discussing the repair with their local dealership. The issue is covered under GM’s Powertrain warranty, so check with your local dealer when it comes to warranty coverage before scheduling repairs.

As a reminder, the 2025 Buick Enclave introduces the full-size crossover’s all-new third generation, showing off a fresh exterior design, an overhauled cabin, and a new turbocharged powerplant. The exterior takes inspiration from the Buick Wildcat EV concept and presents exterior dimensions that are longer, wider, and taller than the generation which preceded it. Meanwhile, the cabin spec is headlined by a 30-inch infotainment screen and a long list of driver safety and assist tech features.

Under the hood, the 2025 Enclave is equipped as standard with the turbocharged 2.5L I4 LK0 gasoline engine, while the GM eight-speed automatic transmission is standard as well.
