1968 Chevy C10 Matches Big Block And Manual Transmission With 800 HP: Video

Overlook the meaty Hoosiers in the rear and the big cowl induction hood, and this bright orange 1968 Chevy C10 doesn’t necessarily look like some crazy performance vehicle. Nevertheless, this thing is rocking a Big Block V8 engine making a little over 800 horsepower, all of which is sent rearwards through a manual transmission, making for quite the handful for anyone sitting in the driver’s seat. Now, we’re getting under the skin of this build with the following feature video.

Once again coming to us from the folks at AutotopiaLA, the truck had 32,000 miles on it and was all-original (except for wheels and tires) before the owner started upgrading it for big performance. Previously equipped with a stock 307 engine and a three-speed transmission, this Chevy C10 was eventually swapped with a 468 Big Block. Unfortunately, the first engine failed after less than 100 miles, leading the owner to replace it with a Dart Big M Block, estimated at 803 horsepower and 840 pound-feet of torque.

The owner walks through the engine build, including parts like AFR 345 Magnum heads, Eagle crank, and a LSM cam. As for the transmission, the build was upgraded from a TKO 600 to a fully built Tremec TKX rated for 980 pound-feet of torque.

The truck retains some of its classic features, including its original bench seat and much of the interior, although the owner also modernized certain components, such as the wiring and LED lights, plus the fuel system with a 20-gallon aluminum tank.

The truck is also equipped with Wilwood brakes and adjustable rear shocks, but the owner kept the suspension and chassis mostly stock, noting that despite the massive power, the truck still drives straight.

The exterior looks pretty rough, showing a good amount of rust, especially in the rockers. Still, even the bright orange paint doesn’t really tell the full story of what’s lying in wait.

“I mean if you look at it, it doesn’t look like anything special,” the owner states.
